Introducing Triangular Groups And Further Results On Magic Groups, Nicholas Charles Fleece
Introducing Triangular Groups And Further Results On Magic Groups, Nicholas Charles Fleece
Doctoral Dissertations
In this research, we discuss two new topics in group theory. First, we define an n-magic square in a group to be a nxn array of group elements whose rows, columns, and diagonals have the same product. This definition is akin to the idea of magic squares in the integers. Groups that have an n-magic square are said to be n-magic. We begin with some preliminary results and focus much of our attention on 3-magic groups, though we also give some results for higher n. Through a series of propositions, we ultimately prove a characterization theorem for 3-magic finitely generated …
Orientable Quadrilateral Embeddings Of Cartesian Products Of Graphs, Matthew Farnsworth, Max Goskie, Adrian Volpe, Jackson Sayre
Orientable Quadrilateral Embeddings Of Cartesian Products Of Graphs, Matthew Farnsworth, Max Goskie, Adrian Volpe, Jackson Sayre
SPARK Symposium Presentations
In the spirit of Pisanski (1989) we consider orientable quadrilateral embeddings of Cartesian products of cycles on surfaces. We offer a constructive example of such an embedding of three low-order cycles. Then we show more generally that such embeddings exist for the product of a 2-cycle, and even cycle, and an arbitrary third cycle. We represent our graphs using rotation schemes to show this existence. Use of rotation schemes led to the ultimate characterization of our findings visually, providing conjectures for generalizations of products of three cycles.

Local-Neutrosophic Logic And Local-Neutrosophic Sets: Incorporating Locality With Applications, Florentin Smarandache, Takaaki Fujita
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
The study of uncertainty has been a significant area of research, with concepts such as fuzzy sets [87], fuzzy graphs [51], and neutrosophic sets [58] receiving extensive attention. In Neutrosophic Logic, indeterminacy often arises from real-world complexities. This paper explores the concept of locality as a key factor in determining indeterminacy, building upon the framework introduced by F. Smarandache in [73]. Locality refers to processes constrained within a specific region, where an object or system is directly influenced by its immediate surroundings. In contrast, nonlocality involves effects that transcend spatial or temporal boundaries, where changes in one location have direct …

Spectral Theory And The Gelfand Transform, Brenden Schlader
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
The overall goal of this thesis is to study spectral and Gelfand theory as it relates to unital Banach and C∗-algebras. In the first part, we develop the necessary algebraic, analytic, and topological background relevant to the content of this work. We also discuss concrete examples of algebras frequently used in the subsequent sections. In the second part of this thesis, we develop spectral theory by first defining the spectrum of an algebra through the characterization of the invertible and noninvertible elements. In particular, we establish properties of the commutative unital Banach algebra ℓ1(Z). We also establish fundamental results such …

Integrating Sentiment Analysis In Predictive Models: A Comparative Study On Game Popularity On Steam, Khaleefa Alhemeiri
CMC Senior Theses
Over the past decades, the gaming industry has managed to evolve into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise. Gaming platforms such as Steam foster unprecedented amounts of engagement among players worldwide daily. In this thesis, we investigate the effect of incorporating sentiment-driven metrics, specifically YouTube view counts and positive reviews, into predictive models for game popularity. In addition, by comparing our linear regression sentiment-based approach to the Bayesian hierarchical folded normal model used by De Luisa et al. (2021), we can understand the many differences, strengths, and limitations of each methodology. In our thesis, we focus on three games. Each is of varying …
Analyzing Political Sentiment On Micro-Blogging Data: A Lexicon And Machine Learning Approach To The 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, Ava Grey
CMC Senior Theses
This paper explores the trends in sentiment towards U.S. presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump through micro-blogging social media text during the five months leading up to the election. Two datasets of varying sizes and origins were used to contextualize and validate analysis findings. The analyses include both a lexicon-based approach and a machine learning predictive method. Common sentiment analysis techniques like term frequency, term frequency inverse, various lexicons, and n-grams were utilized during the lexicon approach. During the modeling, a random forest was utilized in addition to the methods used during the lexicon approach. Results showed that overall …

Strategies For Playing Unshackle Games On Some Graphs, Thitiphut Leelathanakit
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Unshackle game is a combinatorial game for two players that starts with prisoners and shackles on a board such that each shackle has two ends, and each end is shackled to one prisoner. Two players alternately play a turn by destroying a shackle on the board until all shackles have been destroyed. A prisoner is free when all shackles that are shackled to him are destroyed, and the player who makes the most prisoners free wins and the other loses. Both players draw if neither of them can win. The prisoners and the shackles on the board can be considered …
Lipschitz Conditions On Operators And Matrices, Ryan Farrell
Lipschitz Conditions On Operators And Matrices, Ryan Farrell
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Lipschitz functions on the real line find various applications across mathematics, including in differential equations, optimization, and machine learning. The goal of this thesis is to investigate functions which satisfy certain Lipschitz conditions when ap- plied to operators and matrices. Our study will review two classes of such functions, the class of Operator Lipschitz functions with respect to a given matrix norm, and the class consisting of functions which do not meet Lipschitz conditions in the traditional sense but satisfy inequalities which are Lipschitz in nature – we call such conditions ”Lipschitz-like”. The thesis concludes with a survey of these …
Fourier Transformation Of Non-Periodic Functions And Its Application In Computed Tomography, Sabrina Hossain
Fourier Transformation Of Non-Periodic Functions And Its Application In Computed Tomography, Sabrina Hossain
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Fourier analysis plays an important role in signal processing and imaging applications,
with computed tomography (CT) being a prominent example. CT imaging relies on recon-
structing cross-sectional images of objects from multiple projections, a process deeply rooted
in the mathematical framework of the Fourier series and its extensions. This thesis explores
the mathematical principle behind CT, demonstrating how periodic and non-periodic func-
tions can be decomposed into sinusoidal components to facilitate image reconstruction. We
begin by reviewing the Fourier series and its ability to represent periodic signals, and then
extend this concept to non-periodic functions through Fourier transforms. The connection …

Bifurcation And Index Theory With Applications To Nonlinear Differential Equations, Asrafi Yesmin
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This thesis presents a rigorous framework for the study of bifurcation phenomena in nonlinear differential equations. Semigroup theory and index theory are introduced to examine qualitative changes in the solution structures of the nonlinear dynamic system as the parameters vary. The theoretical framework is then applied to several nonlinear differential equations from biology and physics.
Guessing Games To Determine 1 Of Several Secret Numbers, Kyle Mckee, Julia Osmun, Dori Schlutt
Guessing Games To Determine 1 Of Several Secret Numbers, Kyle Mckee, Julia Osmun, Dori Schlutt
Mathematics Undergraduate Research
A guessing game is a two-player game between a Responder and a Questioner. In a guessing game, the Responder is thinking of x ≥ 1 secret numbers in a set S of size n. The Questioner is tasked with asking questions of the form: “How many numbers are in Q ⊆ S?” until the Questioner knows at least 1 of the Responder’s secret numbers. We find a game-winning strategy for the Questioner with minimal possible questions for games with x = 2. We also find lower-bounds for x = 2 and x = 3.

Offline Guessing Games With Two Numbers, Justin Sciullo, Lisa Shen, Sarah Zaske
Mathematics Undergraduate Research
In an offline guessing game, there is a player called the Questioner and a player called the Responder. The Responder first picks two distinct numbers from the set {1, 2, 3, . . . , n}. The Questioner then creates a set of questions of the form “How many of your numbers are in the set qi ⊆ {1, 2, 3, . . . , n}?” and sends them to the Responder who answers them. The Questioner wins if they can guess the Responder’s numbers no matter which numbers the Responder chose. The Responder wins otherwise. We …

Optimal Control And Structurally-Informed Gradient Optimization Of A Custom 4-Dof Rigid-Body, Brock Marcinczyk, Logan E. Beaver
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications
This work develops a control-centric framework for a custom 4-DOF rigid-body manipulator by coupling a reduced-order Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle (PMP) controller with a physics-informed Gradient Descent stage. The reduced PMP model provides a closed-form optimal control law for the joint accelerations, while the Gradient Descent module determines the corresponding time horizons by minimizing a cost functional built directly from the full Rigid-Body Dynamics. Structural-mechanics reaction analysis is used only to initialize feasible joint velocities—most critically the azimuthal component—ensuring that the optimizer begins in a physically admissible region. The resulting kinematic trajectories and dynamically consistent time horizons are then supplied to …

Geometric Dimensionality Reduction, Daniel Livschitz
CGU Theses & Dissertations
The emergence of AI models developed through computationally intensive training has resulted in a surge of research into dimensionality reduction techniques that spans across numerous mathematical disciplines. In this thesis we establish Geometric Dimensionality Reduction, a non-linear data compression technique that utilizes low dimensional manifolds embedded in dimensional spaces to form composite contraction-and-projection maps. Geometric Dimensionality Reduction is predominantly demonstrated through a novel algorithm entitled LGE (Livschitz-Gu-Eyunni) that utilizes Multicomplex rotation groups and polyspherical coordinates to define a single tuneable logarithmic map from ℝ 2푛 to ℝ 푛+1 with deterministic time complexity, geometric tunability, and semi-reversibility. Significant breakthroughs in the …

The Neutrosophic Set is a mathematical framework designed to manage uncertainty, characterized by three membership functions: truth (T), indeterminacy (I), and falsity (F). In recent years, extensions such as the Hyperneutrosophic Set and SuperHyperneutrosophic Set have been introduced to address more complex scenarios. This paper proposes new concepts by extending Bipolar Neutrosophic Sets, Interval-Valued Neutrosophic Sets, Pythagorean Neutrosophic Sets, and Double-Valued Neutrosophic Sets using the frameworks of Hyperneutrosophic and SuperHyperneutrosophic Sets. Additionally, a brief analysis of these extended concepts is presented.

Hypergraphs extend traditional graphs by allowing edges to connect multiple nodes, while superhypergraphs further generalize this concept to represent even more complex relationships. Neural networks, inspired by biological systems, are widely used for tasks such as pattern recognition, data classification, and prediction. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), a well-established framework, have recently been extended to Hypergraph Neural Networks (HGNNs), with their properties and applications being actively studied. The Plithogenic Graph framework enhances graph representations by integrating multi-valued attributes, as well as membership and contradiction functions, enabling the detailed modeling of complex relationships. In the context of handling uncertainty, concepts such as …

This paper proposes a modified structure for the neutrosophic set called the Quantified Neutrosophic Set (QtNS) with a parameterized setting. Unlike conventional approaches, the QtNS provides a quantified environment for the indeterminacy by its dependence on truthness and falsity components. This innovative approach quantifies the uncertainty and improves the assessment process via expert-guided opinions, customising it according to the specific situations in real-world decision-making scenarios. Some QtNS operations along with useful characteristics are addressed. Furthermore, two algorithms, QtNSUI and QtNSAO, are developed for the proposed operations of union, intersection, AND, and OR based on QtNS. In the world of sustainable …

Graph characteristics are often studied through various parameters, with ongoing research dedicated to exploring these aspects. Among these, graph width parameters—such as treewidth—are particularly important due to their practical applications in algorithms and real-world problems. A hypergraph generalizes traditional graph theory by abstracting and extending its concepts [77]. More recently, the concept of a SuperHyperGraph has been introduced as a further generalization of the hypergraph. Neutrosophic logic [133], a mathematical framework, extends classical and fuzzy logic by allowing the simultaneous consideration of truth, indeterminacy, and falsity within an interval. In this paper, we explore Superhypertree-width, Neutrosophic treewidth, and t-Neutrosophic tree-width.
