Public interest in history is alarmingly low, and this thesis aims to help reverse that trend by recommending the adoption of YouTube as history’s community tool. The majority of this thesis assesses YouTube’s merits as a suitable platform for enthusiasts and professionals alike to share their interests and thereby grow the public’s interest in history. This paper also includes other authors' sentiments on digital history and incorporates it into the argument.

This article attempts to understand the economic and informatic ramifications of the convergence between increasingly connective games and massive online platforms by considering recent trends in both that center around designing for emergence. Scholarship on emergence as a property of games overwhelmingly treats emergent design as a liberating force that privileges player agency in a virtual space. Yet, as games fuse with surrounding platform ecosystems like Steam, Facebook, and Google, those emergent behaviors are subject to vast systems of inscription that analyze user behavior in order to reshape the free space of emergence and extract greater social and financial capital. …

Meaningfulness is a media gratification distinct from enjoyment characterized by feelings of insight, contemplation, and poignancy. Video games, too, can elicit experiences of meaningfulness, but the mechanisms underlying meaningfulness are unclear and in need of further exploration. Adapting work from existential psychology, this research proposes the construct of henosis as one mechanism that might contribute to meaningful video game experiences. Henosis is a response to experiences in which a person’s fundamental schema about the world (global schema) is challenged by an event which contradicts this schema. Executive Summary

Over the past three years, we have monitored the global organization of social media manipulation by governments and political parties. Our 2019 report analyses the trends of computational propaganda and the evolving tools, capacities, strategies, and resources.

1. Evidence of organized social media manipulation campaigns which have taken place in 70 countries, up from 48 countries in 2018 and 28 countries in 2017. In each country, there is at least one political party or government agency using social media to shape public attitudes domestically.

งานวิจัยชิ้นนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา (1) ลักษณะที่โดดเด่นของข่าวสารปลอมทางการเมืองบนเฟซบุ๊กในช่วงการเลือกตั้ง พ.ศ. 2562 (2) ปัจจัยที่นำไปสู่การตรวจสอบข้อเท็จจริง และ (3) กระบวนการตรวจสอบข้อเท็จจริงเกี่ยวกับนักการเมืองและพรรคการเมือง โดยใช้วิธีเชิงปริมาณ (Quantitative Methodology) คือ การวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาข่าวสารที่น่าสงสัยว่าจะเป็นข่าวปลอมทางการเมืองที่ปรากฏบนเพจทางการเมืองทั้งสองกลุ่มจำนวน 12 เพจ ได้แก่ (1) กลุ่มเพจที่สนับสนุนพลเอกประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชาและพรรคพลังประชารัฐ (Pro-military) และ (2) กลุ่มเพจที่สนับสนุนนายธนาธร จึงรุ่งเรืองกิจและพรรคอนาคตใหม่ (Pro-democracy) และใช้วิธีเชิงคุณภาพ (Qualitative Methodology) คือ การสัมภาษณ์ผู้ติดตามเพจทั้ง 27 คน ผลการศึกษาลักษณะที่โดดเด่นของข่าวสารปลอมทางการเมืองที่เกิดขึ้นในช่วงการเลือกตั้ง พ.ศ. 2562 โดยการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาพบว่า ข่าวปลอมทางการเมืองในช่วงการเลือกตั้งเป็นข่าวสารปลอมที่ถูกจัดว่าเป็นการโจมตีนักการเมืองและพรรคการเมืองและมีวิธีการนำเสนอที่ทำให้ผู้ติดตามเพจทางการเมืองเข้าใจผิด (Misleading) นอกจากนี้ เมื่อพิจารณาผ่านกรณีศึกษาทั้งสองคือ (1) กรณีของพลเอกประยุทธ์จันทร์โอชาและพรรคพลังประชารัฐ นั้นที่เกี่ยวข้องกับพลเอกประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา จะเป็นข่าวสารปลอมทางการเมืองด้วยการสร้างเนื้อหาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการออกนโยบายสาธารณะโดยข่าวปลอมดังกล่าวถูกจัดประเภทเป็นคลิกเบท (Click Bait) ที่มีรูปแบบการนำเสนอคล้ายกับสำนักข่าวกระแสหลัก (Imposter) และมีเนื้อหาที่ถูกประดิษฐ์ขึ้นโดยสมบูรณ์ (Fabrication) (2) กรณีของนายธนาธร จึงรุ่งเรืองกิจ และพรรคอนาคตใหม่ จะเป็นข่าวสารทางการเมืองที่เป็นทฤษฎีสมคบคิด (Conspiracy Theory) และที่ผูกโยงเรื่องราวทางการเมืองเช่น the storyline to major political events such as changes in political regime, mass political conflicts, and interference attempt in the election by the US government ที่มาจาการผู้เขียนบทความที่ไม่มีตัวตนอยู่จริง (fictitious personas) ทั้งนี้ การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกชี้ให้เห็นสถานการณ์และแรงจูงใจที่นำไปสู่การตรวจสอบข้อเท็จจริง ได้แก่ (1) การแบ่งขั้วทางการเมือง (Political Polarization) (2) การเปิดรับและติดตามเพจทางการเมือง (3) ความสะดวกในการตรวจสอบบนแพลตฟอร์มออนไลน์ …

This study examines the building and rethinking of German propaganda institutions during World War I. The goal of this dissertation is to illustrate the evolution of German government ideas on propaganda between 1914-1918.

During the war, German military leaders, politicians, and diplomats had ambitions to change, reform and modernize approaches to media governance. They were losing the battle of ideas, they realized early on. We are inundated by a constant feed of media that responds and adapts in real time to the impulses of our psyches and the dimensions of our devices. Beneath the surface, this stream of information is directed by hidden, automated controls and steered by political agendas. The transmission of information has evolved into a spiral of entropy, and the boundaries between author, content, platform, and receiver have blurred. This reductive space of responsive media is a catalyst for immense political and cultural change, causing us to question our notions of authority, truth, and reality.

The work carried out by Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) is fundamental for a more just and democratic society. Therefore, the acts of aggression against them, whether committed by individuals, the State, armed groups or corporative interests, constitute an indirect attack against the rights of the whole population. Researchers have found that higher education is known to stabilize political opinions and thought to enhance critical thinking skills. The role that an individual's level of education plays in shaping public opinion during a foreign affairs crisis, within the context of repetitious and uniform news media coverage, has yet to be determined. The theoretical foundation of agenda-setting explains how salience is created by emphasizing certain messages and influencing public opinion and may bypass education and political knowledge. This dissertation connects theories of political communication, public relations and international relations to conceptualize a new model of public diplomacy, where boundaries between distinct types of actors are drawn. It proposes an ecological model and a competition model of public diplomacy.
