The Ebola Crisis: A Communicative Response From Samaritan's Purse, Bailie Porter
The Ebola Crisis: A Communicative Response From Samaritan's Purse, Bailie Porter
Masters Theses

Crisis communication has become more and more important in a world that is daily filled with catastrophes. This study uses W. Timothy Coomb’s situational crisis communication theory as a lens to view the Ebola crisis. The purpose of the research is to …

Framing The Ebola Outbreak: Systemic Influences On News Coverage, Adaobi Vivian Duru
Framing The Ebola Outbreak: Systemic Influences On News Coverage, Adaobi Vivian Duru
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
ABSTRACT Using a media systems comparative framework, I investigated the relationship between systemic characteristics and news coverage of international events. Leveraging a highly salient event: the Ebola outbreak, I extended the Hallin and Mancini Model to non-western democracies. This dissertation explored differences in media coverage of Ebola across media systems. Findings revealed that characteristics of media systems inform how news about an event is framed by reporters. By investigating news influences, this dissertation broadly sheds light on the latent influences of politics and culture on what audiences receive as news. My results showed that liberal media systems such as those …

Framing Responsibility For Bullying: An Ethnographic Content Analysis, Kayla Knight
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the current study is to explore ways in which American print news media frame responsibility for adolescent and teen bullying. More specifically, how media portray responsibility for the underlying causes and consequences of bullying, as well as for responding to bullying, are examined. Drawing from media studies and the construction of Social problems literature, the study is guided by two broad research questions, 1) How do American news media frame responsibility for bullying? and 2) What news sources, or "claims-makers," are selected as authorities on bullying in news media articles?
