Makara Journal of Science
Organic waste comprises a considerable portion of global waste, requiring effective management. The ability of the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens, BSF) to convert organic waste into biomass has been well reported. However, bioconversion can be hindered by fiber-rich substrates, a challenge that can be addressed through substrate pretreatment. This study examined the oviposition preferences and larval performance of BSFs in several fruit wastes fermented by effective microorganisms (EMs), which were compared to non-fermented substrates. The oviposition attractants utilized pineapple peel and overripe soursop, with larval performance evaluated among different treatments, i.e., non-fermented pineapple peel (NFP), fermented pineapple …

Perspectives beyond the CD4 T cell interferon (IFN)-γ paradigm are needed to understand immunity in tuberculosis (TB). Growing data in patients across a spectrum of TB highlight that changes in antibody Fc domain glycosylation and Fc effector functions correlate with disease and impact Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection. How antigen-specific antibodies within polyclonal responses affect bacteria is less clear. This study examines antibodies targeting ESAT-6 and CFP-10, Mtb virulence proteins essential for pathogenesis. Data from patients with TB show that polyclonal immunoglobulin (Ig)G reactive to ESAT-6 and CFP-10 diverges from other Mtb and non-Mtb antigens with enhanced sialylation, …

New technologies allow scientists to study animal communication like never before. Advanced surveillance devices ornament forests and oceans, recording animals over great stretches of distance and time. Artificial intelligence can absorb these enormous datasets, sorting tangled abstractions into coherent patterns. With a sufficiently robust library of analyzed data, some researchers believe that large language models will soon learn to translate whale communication systems.

We employ density functional theory calculations to investigate the energetics and diffusion mechanisms of alkali metal ions (Na+, K+, Rb+, and Cs+) within the analcime framework. While Na+preferentially adsorbs at the center of the 8-member ring, DFT calculations show that larger ions, such as Cs+, occupy the center of the cage due to steric constraints. The computed exchange energies indicate that exchange of Na+by Cs+is thermodynamically favorable. Migration energy barriers, determined using the climbing image nudged elastic band method, show that Na+is …

Multiplex immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry (mIF/IHC) are increasingly employed antibody-based technologies that use tissue sparingly and facilitate the detection of co-localized or neighboring biomarkers. Specifically, these platforms enable spatial analyses of the tumor microenvironment as well as extended applications, for example, describing normal tissue anatomy, autoimmunity, infectious diseases, etc. mIF/IHC has greatly enhanced biomarker discovery efforts, and a growing number of studies suggest superiority to traditional IHC. Standardization of staining approaches, reporting of image analysis strategies and resultant data is critical for facilitating cross-study comparisons, validation, deployment, and generalization of findings. To address this challenge, The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer …

This paper presents a comprehensive study of a multi-gigahertz chaotic generator of light pulses based on solid-state laser sources, including fiber lasers, governed by carefully designed positive and negative feedback loops. It harnesses the inherent nonlinear dynamics within a solid-state laser controlled by a combination of two inertial feedback loops, enabling the realization of complex chaotic behavior, including the logistic map scenario, under moderate amplification conditions. The laser system dynamics are rigorously investigated through theoretical modeling, employing a nonlinear map approach, and high-resolution picosecond simulations. The results of our numerical simulations highlight the efficacy of fast electro-optical feedback system with …

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
Non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is the most periodic type of lung cancer and the second most diagnosed cancer globally. Syzygium cumini is plant that extensively used in cuisine and traditional medicine. However, its potential for NSCLC treatment has not yet been elucidated. This study determined the potential of S. cumini as anti-NSCLC using in silico approaches. The in silico study was applied to perform active compound analysis, selection of target candidates, network pharmacology, functional annotation, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulation, respectively. Based on open source databases, S. cumini contained 115 compounds and 14 of them predicted to have …

Pumpkin Variety Demonstration In West Michigan, 2025, Benjamin P. Werling, Justin Adams
Pumpkin Variety Demonstration In West Michigan, 2025, Benjamin P. Werling, Justin Adams
Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports
Pumpkin variety demonstrations were conducted in 2025 at the West Central Michigan Research and Extension Center in Hart, MI, to compare yield, size class, and irrigation response among 21 pumpkin varieties representing jack-o’-lantern, large carving, and decorative cultivars. Demonstration plots were established on sandy soil under standard commercial fertility, pest management, and weed control practices. To assess irrigation effects under dry conditions, approximately 60% of each plot received supplemental sprinkler irrigation.
Jack-o’-lantern varieties varied in size distribution, with some producing a mix of 60, 45, and 30–35 count fruit with few larger-sized pumpkins. Others skewed toward larger bin count classes. …

Sensory processing varies across individuals, with some traits-particularly sensory hypersensitivity to basic non-valenced stimuli-linked to emotional traits and psychiatric risk. Traditional accounts attribute this sensory-emotion linkage to limbic or prefrontal modulation, but empirical support is limited. Growing evidence suggests sensory cortex itself flexibly encodes value beyond labeled-line analysis. Across four high-density EEG experiments with multi-wave assessments, we identified reliable visual cortical hyperactivity in high trait anxiety. The effect emerged as early as 46 ms, localized to V1/V2, and was specific to the parvocellular pathway. It was reproducible across arousal states, stimulus valence, extended intervals, and paradigms, and evident for both …

A Modular Design And Construction Framework For Enhancing The Sustainability Of National Housing Projects In Egypt, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat, Farah Ibrahim El Sahzly
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Egypt’s national housing sector faces mounting sustainability challenges due to outdated design and construction practices that cause material waste, high costs, and inefficient resource use. This study develops a framework for integrating modular design and construction principles into Egypt’s National Housing Projects (NHPs) to strengthen their social, economic, and environmental sustainability. A mixed-method approach combined a literature review, case studies, and a survey of Egyptian Architectural Design Firms (ADFs). The literature review revealed a global consensus on the benefits of modular design and construction, such as improved efficiency, reduced waste, and faster project delivery, yet found limited adoption in Egypt …
