Entomology Papers from Other Sources
This paper is the third in the series covering the United States dynastine scarab beetles and includes the four genera differentiated in the following key:
1. Apex clypeus acute and definitely bidentate, the teeth often worn and nearly obsolete. Apex clypeus acute, either sharply or bluntly so, but never bidentate. Mandibles definitely tridentate externally, the basal tooth often worn and barely visible; thorax not more than two-thirds the length of the elytra; color rufous to rufocastaneous or rufopiceous = Ligyrus Burmeister
2. Mandibles bidentate externally (caution: examine from below and laterally to avoid counting the lacinia teeth as third teeth …

Bulletin No. 320 - Soil Erosion In Small Irrigation Furrows, Orson W. Israelsen, George D. Clyde, Cyril W. Laurit
UAES Bulletins
This bulletin reports experimental procedure and data collected in a three-year study of the effect of irrigation furrow slopes and size of streams on the amounts of soil eroded from the furrows. Studies were made in 10 furrows on each of two farm experimental plots, the furrows being in different directions from a central water-stilling basin. The experimental plots were maintained fallow during the season--no crops were grown. Furrow slopes ranged from less than 1 percent to slightly more than 6 percent. Irrigation streams from 5 to 30 gallons per minute at the furrow inlet were measured first by means …

Ec46-223 My Kitchen
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
I have often dreamed of having a kitchen which would be cheerful, convenient, cleanable, and comfortable. If we should build a new home, and I could create my dream kitchen, it would fit the needs of my family, our living habits, our standards of meal preparation and serving, the equipment we could afford, and the amount of help and company we are likely to have.
After looking at pictures and plans, reading literature, and talking to others, I believe that step-saving, workable kitchens don't just happen. There evidently are some basic principles to follow. Several years' experience can give a …

This paper continues the series on United States dynastine scarab beetles and includes the three genera differentiated in the following key:
1. Apical margin of posterior tibia evenly truncate, never with angulations or teeth (lateral view); real apex of clypeus beyond (i.e., apical of) the apparent carinate apex; front male tibia frequently edentate. = Cheiroplatys Hope
2. Mandibles always large, always well exposed, always armed externally with teeth or else square in outline (cessus); apical margin of posterior tibia usually with 1 or 2 sharp angulations or 1 to 3 or 4 teeth. = Strategus Hope

George Washington Curtis And Frank Arthur Gulley: Two Early Agricultural Teachers In Texas, S. W. Geiser
Field and Laboratory
The death, on September 18, 1945, in Oklahoma City, of Professor George W. Curtis, removed the last of the pioneer teachers of scientific agriculture at early Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College. Professor Curtis' term of service extended over a decade-from 1883 to 1893. He was the third professor of agriculture in the history of the College (having been preceded by Carlisle P. B. Martin and Charles C. Georgeson), and second Director (1890-93) of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. With him was closely associated as first Director of the Texas Station, Frank Arthur Gulley (1851-1938), graduate (1880) of the Michigan Agricultural …

A Gage Laboratory For Southern Methodist University, E. H. Flath
Field and Laboratory
On March 1, 1946, Major General G. M. Barnes, Chief of Research and Development for the Army Ordnance Department, and President Umphrey Lee of Southern Methodist University, announced plans for the establishment of a precision gage laboratory in the School of Engineering. The decision to install the laboratory was made at the request of the Lone Star Post of the Army Ordnance Association, membership of which includes executives and engineers for a large number of industrial firms in the Dallas area.

Field and Laboratory
Because of its geographic position midway between Mexico and the old Louisiana Purchase, Texas has a fauna and flora that show in many respects transitional forms. The further fact that Texas was for ten years an independent republic, open to free immigration, brought into the new country citizens from diverse European lands, with their old cultures, who mixed with the preponderating immigrants from the United States. As a consequence, Texas came to be known to scientific men the world over as a new and interesting country to be explored…. Among the geographers, the most notable were William Bollaert, Thomas Falconer, …

Notes On The Flora Of Taylor County, Texas, W. L. Tolstead, V. L. Cory
Field and Laboratory
While the senior author was in training at Camp Barkeley, Taylor County, Texas, from September 1942 to February 1944, a nearly complete collection of native plants was made from that region. Specimens were forwarded to Mr. V. L. Cory, then of the Agricultural Experiment Station at Sonora, Texas. Most of them were identified immediately, but others were referred to specialists for study and determination. This paper lists the species collected, with habitat-, locality-, and other noteworthy information concerning them. (Continued in July 1946 issue.)

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
Parasites of the muskrat (Ondatra zibethica) have received considerable study, but little in Ohio. From March 20, 1943, to March 22, 1945, 70 Ohio muskrat carcasses were examined, most of them being obtained from trappers by Merrill C. Gilfillan, Leader of the Pittman-Robertson Muskrat Project in Ohio. The specimens were from seven localities: Lake Erie Marshes (28); Killbuck Valley Marsh (17, lacking liver and lungs); Walnut Creek (19) and Whetstone Creek (2), (Morrow County); Buckeye Lake (1); Little Scioto River, Marion County (1); and Union County near Marysville (2).
