Time Of Planting And Rate Of Seeding On Lupin Yield, G Walton
Time Of Planting And Rate Of Seeding On Lupin Yield, G Walton
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Of the four time of planting trials twodefinitely showed superiority of earlier seeding (73BA5, 73E6). The two trials in the Southwest (73BR14 and 73MT7) gave highest yields with June sowing compared to May. Three trials (73BR14, 73E6 and 73BA5) appear to have a Variety x Time interaction for plant density, but no definite trend for either Uniharvest or Unicrop although later sowing reduced plant density. Seeding rates in excess of 82 kg/ha gave the highest yields in all trials. The rate of seeding experiments (73BA5 and 73MT7) show that the best crop density for yield (graph) lies between 8 and …

1973 Legume Seed Inoculation, D L. Chatel
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Lupin Experiments - Eleven trials were sown during 1973 with the aim of further examining the response of lupins to inoculation on old clover land, new to lupins, and some on new land. The lime pellet and gum slurry methods were compared. The opportunity was also taken to compare a new rhizobia, WU8, with the current commercial inoculant WU425. 1. Inoculation of Uniharvest lupins - time of sowing, strain of rhizobia and method of inoculation. Sown as second crop on old clover land - WILLIAMS. 2. Inoculation of Uniharvest lupins sown as a first crop on old clover land - …

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Comments on results New land sites (Graphs 1 & 2) The three sites were very responsive with the point of inflexion about 600 kg/ha super rate (similar to 1972 result). The seed x super rate interaction shows the quicker response to super with .higher seeding rates. Low super bank (800 kg/ha) (GRAPH 3) The two sites showed very little response to super applied. On the Eradu sandplain no response to super for either Unicrop or Wheat. On the Watheroo yellow sandplain ( 73M015) the two lupin cultivers and the wheat gave different responses. High super bank ( >1 OOOkg/ha) (GRAPH …
Rigorous Bounds On Strong Interaction Coupling Constants, James Bruce Healy
Rigorous Bounds On Strong Interaction Coupling Constants, James Bruce Healy
Student Theses and Dissertations
We investigate the problem of deriving bounds on strong interaction scattering amplitudes from the results of axiomatic field theory. The bounds on the π-π scattering amplitude at points within its analyticity domain which have been obtained by Łukaszuk and Martin are especially interesting because they contain no free parameters, and they impose absolute limits on the size of the renormalized coupling constant for π-π scattering. We improve the rigorous upper bound derived by Łukaszuk and Martin for the π⁰-π⁰ scattering amplitude at the symmetric point. Our principle new tool is the "parametric dispersion relation" of Auberson and Khuri. Also, for …

Rapid Alterations In Rat Brain Tryptophan Hydroxylase Activity; Effects Of Adrenal Steroids, Drugs And Stressors, Efrain Charles Azmitia Jr.
Student Theses and Dissertations
Tryptophan (TP) hydroxylase activity was measured using a modification of the method developed by Ichiyama et al. (1968). The distribution of the enzyme in the rat brain was determined and found to correlate with serotonin (5-HT) distribution. Bilateral adrenalectomy resulted in a decrease enzyme activity in most areas examined with the largest drop occurring in the midbrain. A similar decrease was found in 5-HT in vivo turnover. Injection of corticosterone led to an increase both in normal and adrenalectomized rats. This increase was blocked by cycloheximide, a protein synthesis inhibitor. The midbrain enzyme activity was increased in normal rats by …
Short-Term Memory For Temporal And Spatial Order Information, Alice F. Healy
Short-Term Memory For Temporal And Spatial Order Information, Alice F. Healy
Student Theses and Dissertations
The present investigation includes theoretical and experimental comparisons of short-term memory for temporal and spatial order information. Two questions are of central interest: whether short-term memory for letter sequences is limited to a verbal-acoustic coding process and whether the loss of information from short-term memory results from interference or from a mere decay with time. The basic experimental paradigm employed in the present study was the Brown-Peterson design. The items to be recalled were sequences of four consonants presented visually in varying temporal and spatial arrangements. On each trial the to-be-remembered sequence of consonants was followed by an intervening task …
Objective Measurement And The Stud Breeder, B R. Beetson
Objective Measurement And The Stud Breeder, B R. Beetson
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
The movement towards sale of wool by certificate and sample highlights the significance of objective measurement in the Merino stud breeders' selection of his top rams.
This article suggests how stud breeders should use the Department of Agriculture's Flock Testing Service to gain genetic progress in wool producing ability without loss of visual buyer appeal.
Studs' use of the service will be evaluated in 1974.
A Geochemical Study Of A Marsh Environment, Thomas F. Lytle, Julia Sever Lytle, Patrick L. Parker
A Geochemical Study Of A Marsh Environment, Thomas F. Lytle, Julia Sever Lytle, Patrick L. Parker
Gulf and Caribbean Research
The goal of this study was twofold: 1) chemically to characterize a specific salt marsh, the sediments and associated biota and 2) to establish clear relationships between the chemical substances residing in the sediments and similar or identical substances occurring in the biological specimens. In this particular study it was felt that the hydrocarbons would yield the most significant organic geochemical information. These compounds are ubiquitous but minor components of all organisms. Though their function is not entirely understood, it is known that they are concentrated in the waxy coatings of plants and most likely aid in the protective mechanisms …
