Fisheries Report No 51 - 'Taiyo Maru 71" Demersal Trawling Cruise In Western Australian Coastal Waters South Of 21 S, July-September, 1979, D. I. Heald, M. H. Walker
Fisheries Research Reports
A Japanese demersal trawler, 'Taiyo Maru 771' was given special permission to conduct exploratory trawling in the period 73.7.79-16.9.79 off the Western Australian coast between 21°S Latitude and 35°30'S Latitude, an area which partly overlapped the fishing grounds for the western rock Lobster. The vessel was required to complete a catch, fishing effort and species composition log book issued by the Commonweath Department of Primary Industry. Two Western Australian Department of Fisheries and Wildlife observers on board monitored fishing operations for the entire duration of the cause and undertook research.
Details of each trawl conducted are given and discussed. Catch …

Fisheries Report No 57 - Exploratory Fishing For Spanish Mackerel In Waters Off Western Australia During The Period June 16 To October 16, 1981, K. Donohue, P. Edsall, J. Robins, R. Tregonning
Fisheries Research Reports
The results of catching Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) by gillnet and troll lines during a survey extending from June 16 to October 16 1981 are presented.
The catch rate of mackerel obtained by trolling with six lines was found to be 14.35 times greater than that by gillnet, measuring 0.75 miles in length.
From the results presented, a professional fisherman should be able to assess the economic viability of fishing commercially for Spanish mackerel.
Analysis of biometrial and biological data on fish caught allowed determination of (a) length/weight relationship of (i) Spanish mackerel (ii) wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri); (b) sex ratios …

Habitat Models For Land-Use Planning: Assumptions And Strategies For Development, Adrian H. Farmer, Michael J. Armbruster, James W. Terrell, Richard L. Schroeder
United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
Wildlife managers have long recognized that management goals must be constrained by the availability and suitability of habitat. This recognition, combined with ever increasing land development pressures, has resulted in environmental legislation emphasizing systematic approaches to collection and analysis of habitat information. Wildlife planners have responded with a variety of approaches to the development of models that quantify habitat requirements.

Sorrel, Dicamba Soil Residual Effects, Glean, Veldt Grass, Declared Weeds Blackberry, Pattersons Curse, Penny Royal, J Moore
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
CONCLUSIONS This trial has confirmed the field observation that 2,4,5-T whilst giving good initial control of Pennyroyal, fails after a number of years. Round up has a far longer term effect. This can only be attributed to a more complete initial kill as both herbicides are essentially non residual. Further work needs to be conducted on Round up in combination with soil residual chemicals or multiple applications to overcome the problem of reinfestation from seed reserves. 81A1 -01
Inelastic And Elastic Multiple Scattering Of Fast Electrons Described By The Transport Equation, Karl E. Hoffmann, Hans Schmoranzer
Inelastic And Elastic Multiple Scattering Of Fast Electrons Described By The Transport Equation, Karl E. Hoffmann, Hans Schmoranzer
Scanning Electron Microscopy
A method for solving the transport equation for the propagation of electrons in the primary energy range of interest in electron beam technology has been developed which is based on discretizing the related integral equation. The integral equation is solved by a collocation procedure yielding a system of linear equations.
The elementary scattering processes were described for elastic scattering by quantum mechanical differential cross sections and for inelastic scattering by Gryzinski type semi-empirical excitation functions for core and outer electrons separately.
From the electron flux density calculated, angular and energy distributions of transmitted and backscattered electrons were derived for various …

Monte Carlo Electron Trajectory Calculations Of Electron Interactions In Samples With Special Geometries, Dale E. Newbury, Robert L. Myklebust
Scanning Electron Microscopy
Implementing a Monte Carlo simulation for application to electron sample interactions requires use of accurate treatments of elastic and inelastic scattering. In formulating a Monte Carlo simulation, careful testing must be carried out to ensure that the calculation yields sensible and useful results. A suitable testing procedure includes calculation of (1) electron backscatter coefficients as a function of atomic number, including any necessary adjustment of scattering parameters; (2) backscatter coefficients as a function of specimen tilt; (3) backscatter and transmission coefficients for thin foils; (4) backscattered electron energy distributions; (5) electron spatial distributions; and (6) x-rays, including x-ray depth distributions, …

Solving The Habitat Dispersion Problem In Forest Planning, Stephen P. Mealey, James F. Lipscomb, K. Norman Johnson
United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
The National Forest Management Act (NFMA) of 1976 (16 U .S.c. 1600) requires that each National Forest, by 1985, prepare one integrated management plan that provides for multiple use and sustained yield for goods and services (36 CFR 219). Such plans must, by inference, emphasize single resources only to the extent that thresholds or minimum legal conditions for all other resources are always provided (Clawson 1975). The goal for wildlife to be met by each forest plan is: manage wildlife habitats to maintain viable populations of all existing native vertebrate species in the planning area (the forest) and maintain and …

Structure And Properties Of The Particulate Constituents Of Human Milk. A Review., M. Ruegg, B. Blanc
Food Structure
Milk contains different types of colloidal or coarsely dispersed particles, such as casein micelles, membrane fragments, fat globules and cells. The fat globules are composed of subpopulations of differently sized particles. In contrast to COW 1S milk, the overall average diameter (dys), increases with advancing lactation from about 1.8 ~min colostrum to 4.0 ~min mature milk. Membrane materials originating from the milk fat globule membrane, plasma membrane, secretory vesicles and other sources can be found in milk serum. These particles have also been called lipoprotein particles. Their size ranges from about 10 - 400 nm. New results concerning the structure …

Cross Sections For Inelastic Scattering Of Electrons By Atoms - Selected Topics Related To Electron Microscopy, Mitio Inokuti, Steven T. Manson
Scanning Electron Microscopy
We begin with a resume of the Bethe theory, which provides a general framework for discussing the inelastic scattering of fast electrons and leads to powerful criteria for judging the reliability of cross-section data. The central notion of the theory is the generalized oscillator strength as a function of both the energy transfer and the momentum transfer, and is the only non-trivial factor in the inelastic-scattering cross section. Although the Bethe theory was initially conceived for free atoms, its basic ideas apply to solids, with suitable generalizations; in this respect, the notion of the dielectric response function is the most …

Effect Of Herbicides On Performance Of Aerobic Dairy Lagoons, John D. Bottom, Joseph L. Taraba
Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Faculty Publications
The herbicides glyphosate, bromacil, and dalapon were assessed for their affect on the oxygen uptake of microorganisms from an aerated dairy lagoon at 20 °C. The maximum recommended addition of herbicide active ingerdient to a lagoon is: glyphosate (isopropyl amino salt)—0.42 mg/L; bromacil—3.70 mg/L; and dalapon (85.8 percent Na salt and 14.2 percent Mg salt)—1.95 mg/L. In addition, microorganism isolates from the aerobic dairy lagoon were incubated under aerobic and anerobic conditions at room temperature to assess the effects of the herbicides. Under aerobic incubation, it was found that neither herbicide type nor herbicide concentration affected isolate growth. Under anaerobic …

The excessive amounts of nutrients entering the Peel-Harvey Estuarine system have resulted in a marked increase in the abundance of algal species .within the estuary and reduced production on the sandy coastal soils of the catchment from which the nutrients are being leached. Recent stream samplings by D.C.E have shown that the deep grey Bassendean sands may be contributing up to 40 per cent of the total P loading in the Harvey River. Agriculture Department trials around Albany on similar sands have shown that up to 80 per cent of the bicarb extractable P may be lost after only 150 …
