In many developing countries, food waste constitutes a significant share of municipal solid waste and is often poorly managed, causing environmental degradation. Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL), Hermetia illucens, have emerged as a promising tool for the bioconversion of organic waste. This study evaluated the waste reduction efficiency of BSFL reared on kitchen, fruit, and vegetable wastes and assessed the effect of larval density. Each waste type was subjected to four larval densities (450, 650, 850, and 1050 larvae), with larvae- free treatments serving as controls. Each feeding consisted of 700 g of waste, supplied every four days over a …

Caffeine synthase (CCS1; EC 2.1.1.160) is a S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM; S-adenosyl-L-methionine) dependent N-methyltransferase that executes the final methylation steps of caffeine biosynthesis in coffee, tea, and related plants. While paraxanthine can act as an efficient substrate, it contributes to a comparatively minor branch in the overall pathway. We conducted an integrated in silico analysis of CCS1, covering sequence retrieval, structure prediction, 3D modeling, and mutation assessment. Secondary structure was inferred using PSIPRED; physicochemical indices were computed via AA-PROP; 3D models were generated by I-TASSER and evaluated by Verify3D; and missense effects were prioritized using PolyPhen-2, PROVEAN, I-Mutant, and PhD-SNP. Taken together, …

The Effect Of Alpha-Lipoic Acid On Sperm Cryobiology And Post-Thaw Quality Of Sperm In Livestock Species, Kashif Ali Malak, Nazar Ali Korejo, Hira Sajjad Talpur, Asmatullah Kaka, Atif Ali Malak, Muhammad Aqeel, Rasool Bux
Journal of Bioresource Management
The cryopreservation of semen is a prerequisite for artificial insemination, germplasm banking and the global distribution of elite livestock breeding. However, spermatozoa are particularly sensitive to cooling and freezing/thawing processes due to the presence of large amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids in their plasma membranes and limited cytoplasmic antioxidant stores. An increase in reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, mitochondrial dysfunction, acrosomal injury and DNA fragmentation occurs due to stress associated with cryopreservation, which results in the lowering of motility as well as viability and post-thaw low quality of sperm. Alpha-lipoic acid is a natural disulfide compound that acts as a …

Phosphoric Acid-Mediated Regeneration Of Sugarcane Bagasse Cellulose-Rich Fraction For Enzymatic Production Of Water-Soluble Cellulosic Oligomers, Chiou-Yeong Saw, David Agus Setiawan Wibisono, Tsung-Yen Wu, Yung Chang, Chi-Fai Chau
Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
An integrated strategy was developed to promote conversion of a sugarcane bagasse cellulose-rich fraction into water-soluble cellulosic oligomers (WCOs) through phosphoric acid-mediated regeneration and enzymatic hydrolysis. Alkaline pretreatment on sugarcane bagasse powder increased glucan content from 57.6 to 93.4 g/100 g sample and lowered Klason lignin to 6.1 g/100 g sample. Phosphoric acid-mediated regeneration was subsequently capable of reorganizing the structure of cellulose from sugarcane bagasse, resulting in a decrease of crystallinity from 72.9 to 64.0% and introducing cellulose II-like features. The hydration state of regenerated cellulose strongly influenced hydrolysis performance, as the hydrated form showed significantly higher solubilization (810.4 …

Temporary identification is an important management tool for beef producers. Animals are routinely marked following breeding, pregnancy diagnosis, vaccination, treatment, sorting, shipping, and marketing so they can be quickly identified without repeated handling. Effective temporary identification improves labor efficiency, reduces animal stress, and helps ensure management decisions are applied to the correct animals. This fact sheet provides information on temporary cattle marking using hair bleach.

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
Background: Malnutrition and infectious diseases compromise immune responses, increasing vulnerability to infections. The introduction of plant-derived immunomodulators, such as Bryonia alba (Bry. alba), is attracting attention due to their lower side effects compared with chemical drugs. In Homoeopathy, Bry. alba has long been utilised to treat a wide range of illnesses, including viral infections, and is recognised for its immunomodulatory properties. Objectives: To evaluate the immunomodulatory effects of Bry. alba 6C and 30C potencies on humoral and delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) in sheep red blood cell (SRBC)-immunised BALB/c mice. Materials and methods: Fifty BALB/c mice were divided into five …
