Bulletin No. 29 - Irrigation: Amount Of Water To Use. Relative Feeding Values Of Timothy, Lucerne And Wild Hay, J. W. Sanborn

UAES Bulletins

In Bulletin 24 are given results of the first three years of experimentation as to the relation between the amount of water used and crop yield, soil fertility, and the exit, through drains, of the matters held in solution in the water applied. In this report are included the results of the first three years, plus those of the past season. The experiment is regarded of the very highest importance in that it deals with the right amount of water essential to the growth of wheat and grass crops, but more especially as it approximately determines whether the materials of …

On The Presence Of Distoma Westermanni In The United States, Henry B. Ward

Studies from the University of Nebraska Zoological Laboratory

Last June a piece of the lung of a cat was brought me for examination, as it contained some foreign bodies which were unknown to the finder. A cursory examination showed them to be Distomidae, and more careful study seemed to confirm the first impression that, in spite of a few slight differences, they were specimens of the Asiatic Distoma westermanni. Being somewhat in doubt and not having the literature at hand, I sent several to Dr. C. W. Stiles, helminthologist of the Bureau of Animal Industry at Washington, D. C., who wrote that there was no doubt in …

A Preliminary Introduction To The Study Of Entomology, Lawrence Bruner Jan 1894

A Preliminary Introduction To The Study Of Entomology, Lawrence Bruner

Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications

This book has been prepared for the purpose of partially supplying a demand that seems to exist here in the West for an elementary work on entomology such as can be used in the public schools and on the farm. It is not an original production, but comprises notes from many sources as they have been gathered by the writer and presented from time to time in talks to his classes in the University of Nebraska and before audiences at farmers' institutes throughout the state. The chapters on remedies and on apple and small grain insects have been compiled and …

On The Parasites Of The Lake Fish: Notes On The Structure And Life History Of Distoma Opacum, N. Sp., Henry B. Ward

Studies from the University of Nebraska Zoological Laboratory

This work was done while a member of the scientific corps sent out by the Michigan Fish Commission to begin an investigation of the biological conditions in the Great Lakes. The work in 1893 was carried on at New Baltimore, on Lake St. Clair. My thanks are due to the Michigan Board of Fish Commissioners for the many conveniences placed at my disposal in carrying out the investigations on fish parasites, of which this is one result. To Professor J. E. Reighard, director of the party, I owe much for his interest and hearty cooperation in all matters pertaining to …
