A Study Of The Effects Of Different Substrates On Growth And Reproduction In Certain Coprophilic Agaricaceae, Raymond C. Brown
A Study Of The Effects Of Different Substrates On Growth And Reproduction In Certain Coprophilic Agaricaceae, Raymond C. Brown
Theses and Dissertations
Psilocybe mutans sp. nov. had ceased fruiting consistently in artificial culture several years prior to the initiation of this study. In the couse of this study fruiting bodies were produced on a number of different substrates. All cultures were inoculated by mycelial transfer or by spraying with a suspension of pre-germinated spores. All cultrues were incubated for one to two weeks in a constant-temperature room at 70°F. on a shelf fourteen inches below a fluorescent lighting fixture. Lighting was continuous with an intensity at shelf level of approximately 3,000 foot-candles. Fruiting on any particular substrate was improved if the substrate …

Factors Of The Microclimate Affecting The Activity Of Fox Squirrels In Southwestern Michigan, Frederick K. Courville
Factors Of The Microclimate Affecting The Activity Of Fox Squirrels In Southwestern Michigan, Frederick K. Courville
Masters Theses
The fox squirrel, Sciurus niger rufiventer, is an important small game animal throughout much of the Midwest. Within the last thirty years several scientific investigations have been focused on this animal, the result being that its life history and ecology are fairly well known.
Concerning the range of the fox squirrel, D. L. Allen (1943:33) states that, in Michigan, the range began to increase with the advent of the pioneers. Baumgartner (1940) and J. M. Allen (1952) noted similar occurrences in their respective states, Ohio and Indiana. In Kansas, the fox squirrel, aided by agricultural land-use, has spread westward throughout …

SDSU Extension Circulars
As a junior leader, you are accepting a great challenge. To be a junior leader is an honor, an opportunity, a responsibility, and a privilege. Although the" courtship" behaviour of waterfowl has attracted widespread interest and has been the subject of several major papers (e.g. Heinroth 1911, Lorenz 1951-1953), the actual means by which pairs are formed in most species of waterfowl remains unknown. We may conclude by inference that the females of most species of ducks must actively "select" their mates, for the elaborate male displays and plumage patterns present in the group can only be reconciled in terms of sexual selection. In addition, any observer of waterfowl will soon realize that it is the males which actively " court" the females, and that …
