9/11 in CUNY Archives is a guide to the archival materials across CUNY campuses and repositories that pertain to the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. This guide is organized by repository and contains descriptions based on finding aids and metadata as well as hyperlinks to digitized materials where available. The collections, curated by the author in consultation with archivists across the CUNY system, include materials created by students – newspapers and yearbooks – as well as correspondence, news clippings, legislative documentation, photographs, oral histories, videos, and artifacts from first responders and memorials.

In 2024, the George Washington University (GW) convened the Research Data Management (RDM) Task Force charged with assessing institutional research data management needs. Early discussions revealed a need for data literacy and a shared language around  research data, including clearer distinctions between research data and other types of institutional data, as well as increased awareness of existing support services. Analysis of the resulting needs assessment survey further identified diverse data needs and widespread uncertainty around data sharing practices and data infrastructure. While respondents expressed an interest in a centralized research data management response, they also raised concerns about sustainability, long-term …

Journal of Research Initiatives

This study examined the awareness of digital footprints and its implications for the ethical cyber behavior of undergraduate Library and Information Science (LIS) students in Kwara State, Nigeria. The study used a qualitative design and conducted semi-structured Zoom interviews with nine final-year LIS students from three universities representing federal, state, and private ownership in the state. Researchers purposively selected participants based on inclusion criteria, then transcribed and interpreted the interviews using reflexive thematic analysis, viewed through the lens of communication privacy management. Historians and genealogists depend on records preserved in archival repositories and special collections libraries to provide the foundation of their research and scholarship. Systemic inadequacies in archival practice, including bias in the development of collections and the pitfalls of engagement, outreach, and advocacy to actively document and promote the work of archives and special collections libraries among potential stakeholders and interest-group communities, often contribute to archival silences, or gaps in the documentary record relating to historically marginalized communities. Academic libraries increasingly use exhibitions as scholarly communication, yet conventional peer-review models rarely account for their collaborative, interdisciplinary nature. Museums and other GLAM institutions have developed standards addressing exhibition goals, audiences, interpretation, attribution, access, and visitor engagement, offering a useful foundation for academic library practice. At Brigham Young University, a library task force examined peer-review models across disciplines and adapted museum standards into a policy for evaluating exhibitions as scholarship in retention and promotion processes. We will describe how the journal was developed, for what purpose, what kinds of works have been published in the first two issues, some challenges we have encountered thus far, and the benefits for our students and faculty.

Objective

To describe the development, implementation, and first-year assessment of a longitudinal Self-Directed Learning Program (SDLP) in a medical school curriculum and demonstrate how librarians can serve as curriculum co-designers, instructors, faculty developers, and assessment partners in support of evidence-based medicine education and accreditation requirements.

Methods

Medical librarians partnered with teaching faculty to develop a four-stage Self-Directed Learning Program embedded within a required longitudinal medical school course. The curriculum aligned LCME self-directed learning requirements with the five A's of evidence-based medicine. Librarians developed and delivered a five-session instructional module covering evidence-based medicine, critical appraisal, question formulation, and literature searching. Librarians …

Dunker and Schwartz at the University of Nebraska at Omaha were curious about experiences of archivists teaching outside the archives, inspired by teaching a new public history course for the history department. There is little existing scholarship about archivists teaching credit-bearing courses outside the library. Existing literature focuses on pedagogical practices for history faculty teaching courses, archivists teaching “one-shots”, and collaborations between teaching faculty and archivists for class assignments. To fill this gap, we created a survey to gather opinions and preferences about teaching credit-bearing courses as part of, or adjacent to, professional responsibilities in academic libraries and archives.

Catalog for the 2017-2018 exhibit at L. Tom Perry Special Collections, BYU Library. Charity bazaars were a product of a massive nineteenth-century philanthropic undertaking in the United Kingdom, as private citizens attempted to respond to the social ills created by a rapidly industrializing economy. Bazaars combined the entertainment value of a social gathering and the fun of a town fair, with the moral earnestness of philanthropic work. Typically organized by women, these bazaars offered handmade goods for sale, raising funds for numerous local and national charitable causes. The John Preston, MD Papers, the newest collection at the McGovern Historical Center, contain letters and institutional records documenting life at the Austin State Lunatic Asylum—now Austin State Hospital—during Dr. Preston's 36 years as superintendent. Materials include correspondence from patient's families, physicians, judges, sheriffs, and attorneys, along with budgets, patient records, and even menus for staff and patients. Together, they offer a window into mental health care in Texas during the early 20th century.

Neo4j-Based Knowledge Graph Construction For Semantic Analysis Of Lis Literature, Partha Sarathi Mandal, Sukumar Mandal

Knowledge graphs with graph databases such as Neo4j provide tremendous capabilities for semantic mapping and discovery in Library and Information Science. This paper proposes a method to construct a domain-specific knowledge graph from journal articles in LIS. Researchers are interested in the semantic connection between authors, topics, citations, and concepts. Using Neo4j, the team implements entity extraction, ontology modeling, relationship mapping, and advanced querying techniques will enable better information retrieval and knowledge discovery. A realistic knowledge graph is created from about 27825 current LIS articles from 100 LIS journals from 2020 to 2026. Interactive Neo4j dashboards are used to visualize …

The rapid rise of book challenges and removals in U.S. school libraries has increasingly been justified through appeals to parental rights, yet relatively little research has explored what parents themselves believe about censorship and book removal. This exploratory qualitative study examined Utah parents’ perceptions of censorship in school libraries, the kinds of content they believe should be restricted, and the reasoning underlying those beliefs. Using a grounded theory-informed thematic analysis approach, data were collected through a survey of 319 Utah parents with children enrolled in public schools.
