Synthesis And Generativity: Elaborative Interrogation Prompts For Graduate Information Literacy Instruction, Omer Farooq, Monica Maher
Synthesis And Generativity: Elaborative Interrogation Prompts For Graduate Information Literacy Instruction, Omer Farooq, Monica Maher
Criss Library Faculty Publications
Discourse surrounding the pedagogy of undergraduate information literacy sessions is robust and plentiful, but graduate students in research-oriented degrees also need a strong understanding of disciplinary resources throughout the coursework stage of their programs. Library sessions guided by ACRL's Framework help to scaffold graduate students' knowledge of the current scholarly information landscape and how to navigate this landscape effectively and efficiently. In addition, these sessions establish the significance of the literature review in identifying subject epistemologies, paradigms, methodologies, and theoretical approaches. For graduate students, this provides an opportunity to conceptualize how to employ the presented material in the context of …
A Preliminary Investigation Of Technical Services Librarians’ Contributions To Library Guides In Academic Libraries, Junli Diao
Publications and Research
Online library guides are one of the bridges that librarians build to connect users to available resources and services. Since the time when library guides were conceived in the pamphlets and book lists of the early days, a historical brand bearing public and instructional services librarians’ merit and reputation has been watermarked in their presentation. In the internet age, have technical services librarians also played a role in contributing to library guides in academic libraries to assist students’ learning and faculty teaching? If so, do technical services librarians who are working as faculty tend to produce more library guides than …

Presentations
This poster discusses approaches to ensure that adjunct placements leverage the temporary placement to the benefit of both adjunct librarians and institutions. Librarians can leverage short-term employment to develop skills and gain experience in new library environments. Libraries maintain services while seeking longterm solutions and progress on key projects leveraging skill areas supporting adjunct librarians’ professional development. Clear career goals, intentional supervision, and guidance on translating experience to future job applications can ground an adjunct appointment in mutually-beneficial principles.
Student Well-Being Matters: Academic Library Support For The Whole Student, Marta Bladek
Student Well-Being Matters: Academic Library Support For The Whole Student, Marta Bladek
Publications and Research
In response to a marked increase in the prevalence and severity of mental health problems among college students over the last decade, colleges and universities have been expanding their well-being initiatives and programs. No longer limited to health services departments, the support of student well-being has been taken up by multiple campus units, including academic libraries. As well-being has been shown to impact academic outcomes, the well-being initiatives libraries develop fit in with their commitment to enhance learning and student educational experience overall. A comprehensive review of wellness interventions in academic libraries, this article presents findings on student well-being and …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The police profession largely utilizes timely and comprehensive information in work performance without which its duty of safeguarding human lives and property is highly jeopardized. To this end, vital information needs to be sought and obtained for effective and efficient policing in Nigeria. This study assessed the kinds of information needed by police officers in the performance of their duties, the means used to obtain such information and barriers encountered while seeking information. Using the descriptive statistics of close-ended questionnaire structure, analyzed with one sample proportion right-tailed test for quantitative data and interview for qualitative data, the study found that …

The Anchor: 2021
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
Self-Protection In Cyberspace: Assessing The Processual Relationship Between Thoughtfully Reflective Decision Making, Protection Motivation Theory, Cyber Hygiene, And Victimization, C. Jordan Howell
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The current study, using structural equation modeling, assesses the processual relationship between thoughtfully reflective decision making (TRDM), theoretical constructs derived from protection motivation theory (PMT), cyber hygiene, and online victimization to determine the cognitive decision-making process that leads to the adoption of online self-protective behaviors, which reduces the occurrence of victimization experiences. Findings, derived from a general sample of Internet users in the United States, reveal: (1) engagement in cyber hygiene practices, as a form of target hardening, decreases Internet users’ experiences with online victimization; (2) thoughtfully reflective decision makers, in the face of cyber threats, develop higher threat appraisals …

Is “Just Googling It” Good Enough For First-Year Students?, Maureen Richards
Publications and Research
This study analyzes citations by first-year students to determine what content they were citing and whether it was available through the open web or the library. Examining the role of these two places as content providers for academic work fills a gap in the literature. Most of the cited works were available through the library and the open web. As the line between content providers continues to blur, these results can help academic libraries prioritize what to teach students about information literacy, where to focus collection development efforts and how to promote the discovery of library resources.

An Assessment Of The Impacts Of Social Media Inputs And Court Case Information On Mitigating Insider Threats, Robert Jones
An Assessment Of The Impacts Of Social Media Inputs And Court Case Information On Mitigating Insider Threats, Robert Jones
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
The insider threat is a global problem that impacts organizations and produces a gamut of undesired outcomes. Businesses often experience lost revenue and stolen trade secrets, which can leave a tarnished reputation. Insider threats can also cause harm to individuals and national security. Past efforts have not mitigated the problem in its entirety. Documented instances of insider threats are as recent as March 2020. Many researchers have focused on monitoring technologies and relying on human monitoring in a reactive posture. An ideal solution would scrutinize an individual’s character and ascertain whether unique traits associated with actors of insider threats are …
