Construction, Curation, And Customization Of Digital Collection For Lis Journals With Greenstone, Partha Sarathi Mandal, Sukumar Mandal
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The digital age has not just revolutionized but transformed academic publishing, fundamentally altering how information is stored, accessed, and shared. This seismic shift, far from leaving professional librarians uncertain, presents an urgent and exciting opportunity to redefine the operations and procedures required for proper functioning. This paper aims to provide step-by-step guidance for constructing digital libraries, including software installation processes. Library data becomes visible on the World Wide Web by using a combination of Apache, PERL, and GSDL software. Through Dublin Core Metadata, users can describe their resources for discovery within distributed systems. Combining these methods allows libraries to create …

Research consultations continue to be a valuable means of connecting with users and supporting their research needs. As we’ve received an increasing number of research consultations where one or more accommodations have been requested, the Kennesaw State University Libraries have been exploring ways to provide accommodations in research consultations. Since there is a lack of research on this specific facet of research consultations, this literature review focuses on the related topics of assistive technology in libraries, accommodations in library services and spaces, and library anxiety to show how these topics relate to providing accommodations in research consultations. The objective of …

Analysis Of R2 Data Services Within The Lids Dataset, Chad Kahl, Joshua Newport
Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library
Introduction: This is a discussion of data services at R2 libraries in the United States. Environmental scan data was collected from summer 2021 through 2023.
Objectives: Our paper focuses on comparisons within four Carnegie Classification categories due to the limited literature about data services at R2 institutions. This analysis was done on a subset of the more comprehensive Library Data Services (LiDS) dataset (Kahl, Skaggs, and Newport 2025). Our research question was broad and general—what does the data service landscape of R2 institutions look like?
Methods: Data gathering was done by utilizing website analysis, after which we …
From Burnout To Belonging: Reintroducing Joy Through Collaborative Library Culture Change, Jason D. Phillips, Chereeka Garner, Cindy Dancel
From Burnout To Belonging: Reintroducing Joy Through Collaborative Library Culture Change, Jason D. Phillips, Chereeka Garner, Cindy Dancel
Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
Libraries are often expected to create joy for others, yet many library workers continue to experience burnout, dissatisfaction, and disconnection. This session explores how one academic library implemented a staff-led, administration-supported approach to rebuilding workplace culture through collective, low-cost, and capacity-aware strategies. Centered on the work of an internal advisory group, this model creates structured opportunities for feedback, collaboration, and shared decision-making while introducing small, intentional interventions that foster connection, recognition, and belonging. Rather than relying on individual resilience or one-time morale boosts, this approach emphasizes sustainable, iterative practices that respond to staff needs and organizational realities. Attendees will leave …

“Lost In Transcription?”: A Case Study Of Using Ai And Humans-In The Loop To Create Captions And Transcripts For A Library Symposium, Eva Lu, Sonya Panangaden, Mark Weiler, Michael R. Clark
Library Publications
In many regions, academic libraries are increasingly expected to generate recorded content as part of their services and operations, such as hosting public or academic events. These recordings require quality captions and transcripts to address the needs of users with disabilities as required by human rights legislation. Unfortunately, auto-generated captions cannot be relied upon to provide error-free outputs. This paper presents a case study of how we used AI and involved 35 volunteers from across North America to create captions and transcripts for recordings of a 3-day virtual accessibility symposium. This initiative was put in place to ensure all attendees …

Navigating Ethical Ai Use In Online Education: Leveraging The Framework For Information Literacy For Higher Education, Grace Kaletski-Maisel
FDLA Journal
As generative AI transforms online education, students are confronted with the many ethical quandaries that this technology poses. A document known as The Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (Framework) has great potential to serve as a tool for educators who strive to guide students towards ethical decision-making in AI use. Information literacy is “the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning.” This definition was posed by the Association of College …
A Case For Societal Provenance: Marguerite Harper As Told By The Men She Represented, V. Emily Cranwell Deinert
A Case For Societal Provenance: Marguerite Harper As Told By The Men She Represented, V. Emily Cranwell Deinert
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
This paper argues for making societal provenance the grounding framework for archival descriptive standards to ensure that important voices already present in archives are no longer buried. This study reclaims from archival obscurity the career of literary agent Marguerite E. Harper to illustrate the need for this expansion. Harper proves strikingly absent from some of the archives for the authors she represented. Likely an unwitting omission from archivists that uncritically accepted the narratives of these male authors, Harper’s erasure provides a potent example of the ways that archival descriptive standards may unintentionally further silence historically marginalized voices within archives. The …
An Architecture Of Vanishing: Toward A Protocol Of Archival Disappearance, Edgardo Civallero
An Architecture Of Vanishing: Toward A Protocol Of Archival Disappearance, Edgardo Civallero
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
This article rethinks the preservationist reflex that equates archival care with permanence. Drawing on post- and decolonial theory, it provincializes endurance as a historically situated ideal and foregrounds global traditions where disappearance, opacity, and cyclical renewal structure memory. It reframes vanishing as custodianship rather than neglect, introducing a taxonomy of protocols of epistemic disappearance—temporal, spatial, relational, semantic, and material—and a grammar of vanishing that operationalizes them as design tools. Extending to institutions, it outlines seasonal, dismantling, shadow, and nomadic archives as forms that measure success by their capacity to end well. A concluding framework articulates five principles—vanishing as care, duration …

When Everyone Is A Librarian: Examining Job Titles And Responsibilities In California School Libraries, Mary Ann Harlan, Jeffrey Mattison, Jodi Hwang
Learning Hub
School libraries in California are staffed by a wide range of personnel, including credentialed Teacher Librarians (TLs) and paraprofessional staff working under a variety of job titles. Analysis of responses from the California School Library Survey revealed substantial variation in self-reported library staff titles, raising questions about the relationship between job titles, job descriptions, and professional responsibilities. This study examined the titles used by individuals working in California school libraries as paraprofessionals and analyzed corresponding job descriptions to determine whether distinctions exist between professional standards and descriptions and paraprofessional duties. Using survey data from the 2022–2023 California School Library Survey, …

De-Centering And Re-Centering Digital Scholarship, Ten Years On, Matthew Hunter, Aaron Retteen, Micah Vandegrift
Faculty Scholarship
Ten years after the publication of a manifesto attempting to describe what digital scholarship could do for and within libraries, some of the original authors reflect on the progress of the call-to-action. This article describes areas in which the integration of digital scholarship activities as core parts of librarianship has and has not become commonplace and traces larger-scale developments in the academy and global knowledge landscape that have contributed to the accuracy of the predictions made in 2017.

This practice brief examines how reference librarians at Valdosta State University’s Odum Library integrate artificial intelligence into daily work while maintaining institutional policies and core library values. As AI reshapes their roles, they must carefully evaluate, verify, and ethically judge any AI output. They support students and instructors by teaching AI literacy, promoting responsible use, translating institutional policies into practical guidance, and emphasizing critical thinking. The brief also stresses the importance of human judgment, empathy, and professional expertise that AI cannot replace. It concludes with practical steps for academic research. For clarity, this article uses the term “instructors” to refer …

How Can We Help? An Exploration Into Graduate Student And Faculty Perceptions And Use Of Georgia Library Learning Online (Galileo), Jessica Banks, Whit Gaines, Michelle Jones
Georgia Library Quarterly
The authors explored the knowledge graduate students and faculty in Columbus State University’s College of Education and Health Professions have surrounding the Georgia Library Learning Online (GALILEO) platform. Additionally, the authors wanted to determine how students used GALILEO and how faculty may have supported their efforts. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected to explore the questions posed. Quantitative data included usage reports from GALILEO and descriptive statistics. Qualitative data were coded to determine themes and opinions of faculty/students. Quantitative reports showed the databases students prefer and how they prefer to use them. The qualitative findings showed that faculty may not …
