A Compilation, Analysis, And Categorization Of 403 Atmospheric And Climate Science Misconceptions, Haeli Leighty
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) has listed the inaccessibility of research related to misconceptions in atmospheric and climate science as a Geoscience Education Research Grand Challenge (Cervato et al. 2018). This project was a direct response to this call for research and consisted of three distinct steps: 1) data gathering, which included reviewing the literature for relevant misconception data, 2) a qualitative analysis, which included compiling, organizing, and categorizing the data collected, and 3) a quantitative analysis, which included determining the prevalence of each misconception across topic categories, demographic categories, and over time. A total of 403 misconceptions …

Organizational change generally and reorganization especially can inherently cause feelings of nervousness and tension. This chapter discusses the moving parts of an organizational transformation to an R1 library and how communication and consensus-building efforts at multiple levels of the library are vital to this kind of transition. Prior to their library’s reorganization, the three authors worked on three different teams across two different units. After the reorganization, the authors were positioned in the same department within a new division in the library and faced the challenge of leading their teams in a new structural environment. This study examines the state of the post-pandemic academic library job market in the Southeastern region of the United States. This analysis of academic librarian job advertisements collected from 2022 and 2023 reveals that while some new jobs have emerged there is a continued demand for traditional roles, prior work experience and the ALA-accredited master’s degree. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are prominent in job advertisements despite some regional political opposition. Remote work options are limited, signaling a nuanced approach to work modality post-pandemic.

Persistent Identifiers And The Next Generation Of Legal Scholarship, Aaron Retteen, Malikah Hall-Retteen
Faculty Scholarship
This article discusses the importance of the most common persistent identifiers in scholarly communications—the digital object identifier and the ORCID identifier—to legal scholarship. Persistent identifiers help preserve and disseminate academic content and data-driven services that leverage this information standard are now integrated into the publication process. Because legal publishers have not widely adopted persistent identifiers, the legal discipline cannot enjoy the benefits offered by this system. This article looks at barriers to implementing persistent identifiers among legal publishers and provides an anecdotal example of creating a sustainable workflow between the law library and student-run law journals.

Disaster is an unavoidable event and has the potential to destroy recorded information. Library as an information institution is responsible for preserving all of its collections, including digital collections. Digital collections are collections that require more specialized level of care than physical collections because they require maintenance from both hardware and software. Therefore, digital disaster preparedness is needed to minimize the impact of disasters and build library capabilities that will be needed when disasters come. Librarians need to have a broad view and awareness of the importance of digital disaster preparedness in libraries, especially in university libraries. This research used …

Data citation promotes accessibility and discoverability of data through measures carried out by researchers, publishers, repositories, and the scientific community. This paper examines how a data citation workflow has been implemented by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) by evaluating publication and data linkages. Two different methods were used to identify data citations: examining publication structural metadata and examining the full text of the publication. A growing number of USGS researchers are complying with publisher data sharing policies aimed to capture data citation information in a standardized way within associated publications. However, inconsistencies in how data citation information is documented …
