Feeling Imposter Syndrome And Burnout? Time To Burn It Down And Get Back To Basics, Jordan Ruud, Jason D. Phillips

Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Many librarians’ self-doubt is arguably at a high point, leading to a distorted self-image and low morale. Beginning with the foundational problems of impostor syndrome and burnout, this chapter proposes a return to basics as a strategy for overcoming these problems. Librarians and other information professionals besieged by uncertainty around their abilities and status can find a way back to professional fulfillment through “burning it down and starting over” – in essence, demolishing one’s received understanding of one’s role by taking conscious stock of one’s duties, setting reasonable personal goals, recalibrating expectations of oneself, and reconstituting one’s professional identity on …

Nonetheless, because of the immense benefits public access to research and creative works provides, we think OA is a challenge worth pursuing. This presentation offers an overview of OA publishing landscapes and provides case studies of flipping a subscription journal to OA, supporting institutional authors in publishing monographs OA, working with faculty to adopt Open Educational Resources (OER) as course materials, and leveraging an institutional repository to support green OA. We will consider the publishing landscape …

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Emojis have become an increasingly important aspect of consumer-brand interactions in the Indian subcontinent. However, the impact of emoji use on brand image and mental health remains underexplored, particularly in emerging economies like India, where structured research on this topic is limited. To address this gap, the present study analyzes over 4,600 consumer tweets related to 19 prominent brands across eleven industries. Using VADER sentiment analysis, the research develops a metric to assess consumer sentiment and brand engagement in relation to emoji usage. PURPOSE: The advent of large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT has introduced notable advancements in various surgical disciplines. These developments have led to an increased interest in the use of LLMs for Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding in surgery. With CPT coding being a complex and time-consuming process, often exacerbated by the scarcity of professional coders, there is a pressing need for innovative solutions to enhance coding efficiency and accuracy.

METHODS: This observational study evaluated the effectiveness of five publicly available large language models-Perplexity.AI, Bard, BingAI, ChatGPT 3.5, and ChatGPT 4.0-in accurately identifying CPT codes for hand surgery procedures. A …

Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice Papers

The interprofessional education (IPE) literature showcases many studies reporting results at the all-student and academic program levels. However, if the purpose of IPE is to develop collaborative-practice ready professionals, analysis at the team level would better support the advancement of the IPE literature and future health care goals. Pre-licensure students engaged in a two-year IPE curriculum and individually completed the Student Perceptions of Interprofessional Clinical Education-Revised survey, version 2 (SPICE-R2), at the end of the first and second year. Teams were comprised of health profession students from 12 academic programs associated with the university. Exploratory and longitudinal analyses of the …

Review Of Building Representative Community Archives: Inclusive Strategies In Practice, Shir Bach Feb 2025

Review Of Building Representative Community Archives: Inclusive Strategies In Practice, Shir Bach

Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies

In Building Representative Community Archives, editor Hannah Leah Crummé sets out to provide a practical guide to building community archives through ten case studies. The volume covers three types of projects: oral history, collection and curation, and reassessment. With some exceptions, community-created and community-maintained archives are sidelined in this collection. The majority of case studies describe academic special collections units embracing community archival principles and practices to meet their own goals, and some chapters do not meaningfully engage with community archives at all. Though many chapters succeed on their own terms, the misleading framing produces a collection that is …

Teaching Archival Intelligence Through An Immersive Class Experience, Dulce Kersting-Lark

Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies

While the University of Idaho does not offer course work in library and information sciences, there is a growing interest in humanities and social science departments on campus to offer skill-based classes that are often found in MLIS programs with an emphasis in archival studies. In particular, building skills considered essential to a public historian has become a goal for the history department's graduate program. As a result, the head of the university library's archives was approached to teach a credit-bearing course on working in archives as well as developing strategies for making archival material engaging to the public. Beyond ‘Fake It ‘Till You Make It’: Impostor Phenomenon In Archivists, April K. Anderson-Zorn, Tiffany Cole, Taylor Flinn, Jane Labarbara

Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library

In December 2022, members of the College and University Archives Section of the Society of American Archivists conducted a survey that examined the prevalence of impostor phenomenon (IP) among archivists. This study, the first to specifically focus on archivists, measures the prevalence of IP in the professional archival community. Using demographic data and the Clance Survey, the authors seek to identify factors that may lead to increased IP in archivists. This paper will review literature related to IP in the information sciences profession, detail the survey results, and suggest personal approaches and workplace initiatives to combat the phenomenon.
