Third Time's The Charm: Choosing A Career In Librarianship, P. S. Mcmillen
Third Time's The Charm: Choosing A Career In Librarianship, P. S. Mcmillen
Library Faculty Research
While many come to librarianship from other careers, I made my third major career change to the profession after a somewhat atypical process. I made myself the subject of a formal assessment process while completing a certificate program in career counseling. One of the first things we learned in the career counseling program is that most people take essentially an opportunistic path to their various jobs and careers, e.g., you know someone who does something that sounds sort of interesting, or someone knows someone else who needs someone… It’s often a very generic process and is, in fact, why so …

The Anchor: 2001
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Librarian Research
e-global library is an information broker that has pulled together excellent information resources, and packaged them in a way that makes them more affordable and readily available through a user-friendly delivery system that is fully tailorable to the needs of individual institutions and libraries. Just as a Wall Street mutual fund is able to give professionally managed stock market access to smaller investors at an affordable price, e-global library is an information broker that gives access to several quality online library services for a price which most educational facilities would be unable to match if they were to implement these …

Teaching Information Literacy In 50 Minutes A Week: The Crush Experience, Judith Faust
E-JASL: Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship (1999-2009, Volumes 1-10)
The development of information literacy is central to the academic success of undergraduates, yet few universities require formal, credit-bearing courses taught by librarians to ensure that students develop these lifelong learning skills and abilities. Where such courses do exist, they are often isolated in the curriculum and rarely linked to the General Education experience. This article describes a General Education program begun in 1998-1999 at California State University, Hayward (CSUH), in which a cohort of students and faculty spend the year exploring a common theme in a series of linked courses, which include an information literacy class. Librarians teach a …

Testing The Design Of A Library Information Gateway, W. Bede Mitchell, Laura B. Davidson, Rebecca Ziegler, Ann Viles
University Libraries: Faculty Publications
In autumn of 1999, librarians at Appalachian State University and Georgia Southern University had decided to revise their Web sites. Each institution’s site had been in place for more than a year, and experience with library users had shown that there were certain aspects of the sites’ designs that were confusing. Previous efforts to improve these library sites had involved the pooling of criticisms from the librarians and users, and then a small group of library faculty and staff would attempt to create new designs that avoided the weaknesses of the old designs.
