The study aimed at determining the information literacy skills on the use of e-resources by undergraduate students using the Big6 information literacy skills Model. Quantitative research methodology was used, and a total 2,484 sample using Sloven’s formula was obtained from a population of 61,804 undergraduate students. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data and was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that the undergraduate students were aware of the information literacy programmes in the Universities (mean=3.87) and possess the necessary information literacy skills to utilize e-resources (mean=3.45). Applying the constructs of the Big6 information literacy skills Model revealed …

"But I'M Not An Engineer"...Collaboration Between A Librarian And An Upper Division Project-Based Engineering Program, Heidi J. Southworth, Rebecca Bates, Robert Sleezer
Library Services Publications
Since 2013, a librarian at Minnesota State University, Mankato has collaborated with faculty and students in an upper division project-based engineering program. While having several years of experience in university libraries plus advanced degrees in history, the librarian had a limited background in science, engineering, and technology, and lacked a formal engineering degree. At first glance, this match may appear to be a recipe for failure. Indeed, in those first few years, the librarian’s angst about the missing engineering degree caused many sleepless nights of worry and concern. However, there came a time when the words “but I am not …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Information is the foundation upon which all academic activities are built. The quality of teaching, learning and research is a function of the quality of information available to practitioners. While the current information landscape is characterized with information adequacy made possible by the application of ICTs to information handling, the sheer magnitude of available information tending towards overload is itself a challenge in the current technology-driven world we live in. In response to this challenge, academic institutions all over the world came up with what is known as information literacy described as an intellectual framework which enables individuals to identify, …

Controlled Digital Lending, Equitable Access To Knowledge And Future Library Services, Xuan Pang, Peggy Glatthaar
Proceedings of the IATUL Conferences
Controlled Digital Lending (CDL) became a popular term in the United States of America (USA) libraries as a result of a white paper authored by Kyle K. Courtney (Harvard University) and David Hansen (Duke University). (Citation?) The white paper gave the legal groundwork to explore the copyright aspect of CDL: Fair Use, First Sale Doctrine and Supreme Court rulings. The white paper also provided guidelines for Library professionals implementing this new technology to fulfill their users’ needs. Inspired by the recent CDL guidelines developed by Courtney and Hansen (2018) two librarians from the University of Florida (UF), and Florida …

The Peer Research Consultants (PRC) program at the University of Miami Libraries (UML), was formed in 2016 as part of the Learning Commons initiative to collocate and centralize academic services at Richter Library. Although the program had a virtual component in the form of chat and phone services when founded, it was primarily a physical setup where library student workers assisted researchers using a peer-to-peer system. In this paper, we highlight the historical trajectory of the peer research consultant (PRC) program in academic libraries using Richter Library as a case study. We argue that the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic …

This paper presents a vision for supporting the growth and development of innovative digital services in research libraries. While libraries have been undergoing digital transformation for decades, we have seen a flowering of new digital services in recent years, from research support services related to data and digital publishing to learning support services that seek to make our pedagogy more accessible, engaging, and suited to the needs of 21st-century learners. The question of how best to support these services structurally within an organization remains an open one, however, and there is little consistency in how this is accomplished across different …
