Nationalgalerie Berlin: Catalogue Of Painting And Sculptures (Review), Elizabeth Mckeigue Sep 2000

Nationalgalerie Berlin: Catalogue Of Painting And Sculptures (Review), Elizabeth Mckeigue

Staff publications, research, and presentations

For scholars and students of modem German art, the Nationalgalerie: Catalogue of Painting and Sculptures on CD-ROM is an excellent means of learning about this museum's collection without having to go all the way to Berlin.

This disc presents in electronic form the complete catalog of the collection of 19th- and 20th-century art in the Nationalgalerie Berlin. While the Nationalgalerie's collection shows a predictable emphasis on German artists, it includes a wide variety of other European artists as well. The disc also catalogs for the first time works confiscated and lost by the museum during World War II. Entries for …

The Anchor, Volume 113.26: August 30, 2000, Hope College

The Anchor: 2000

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

The Library System Of Brazil As Observed In Brasilia, Brazil, Jeffrey T. Bowen Jul 2000

The Library System Of Brazil As Observed In Brasilia, Brazil, Jeffrey T. Bowen

Library Presentations & Publications

My wife and I visited Brazil in December and January this past year, spending the Christmas and New Year’s holidays there. Since my wife is Brazilian, I have taken an interest in exploring Brazilian culture and history. This interest, and the fact that we were in Brazil for a month, prompted me to take a couple of days to visit various libraries and see how things are done there. I visited three basic types of libraries in the capital district of Brasilia. The Universidade de Brasilia, Biblioteca Central (the University of Brasilia Central Library), two different types of public libraries, …

Buckets: Smart Objects For Digital Libraries, Michael L. Nelson Jul 2000

Buckets: Smart Objects For Digital Libraries, Michael L. Nelson

Computer Science Theses & Dissertations

Discussion of digital libraries (DLs) is often dominated by the merits of various archives, repositories, search engines, search interfaces and database systems. While these technologies are necessary for information management, information content and information retrieval systems should progress on independent paths and each should make limited assumptions about the status or capabilities of the other. Information content is more important than the systems used for its storage and retrieval. Digital information should have the same long-term survivability prospects as traditional hardcopy information and should not be impacted by evolving search engine technologies or vendor vagaries in database management systems.

Digital …
