Toward Engaged Scholarship: Knowledge Inclusivity And Collaborative Collection Development Between Academic Libraries And Archives And Local Public Communities, Amanda Y. Makula, Laura S. Turner
Copley Library: Faculty Scholarship
In Open and Equitable Scholarly Communications, ACRL calls for more diverse and inclusive collection development (CD) by academic libraries and archives. Meanwhile, higher education is increasingly committing to community-engaged scholarship. This study investigated the extent to which academic libraries and archives are collecting, curating, and/or preserving knowledge produced by their local public communities. Researchers administered an electronic survey to relevant listservs and conducted follow-up interviews to develop a case study of one library’s efforts. Ninety of the initial 118 survey respondents (76%) indicated that their academic library intentionally collects, curates, and/or preserves materials created or owned by the local …
Double The Vocation, Double The Awe: An Examination Of Vocational Awe In Music Librarianship, Z. Sylvia Yang, Emily Vickers
Double The Vocation, Double The Awe: An Examination Of Vocational Awe In Music Librarianship, Z. Sylvia Yang, Emily Vickers
Library Faculty Publications
Building upon Ettarh’s call to dismantle vocational awe in librarianship, this article outlines the shared components of Western libraries and Western music that lay the groundwork for vocational awe in each of these institutions and explores the ways in which vocational awe uniquely manifests for workers in the interdisciplinary field of music librarianship. The article explores the narrative of music’s goodness, disciplinary training, and manifestations of vocational awe as they appear in the institutional cultures of practice of music and librarianship: inability to develop work-life balance, job creep, low morale, and inequitable compensation. In naming this phenomenon as it is …

ABSTRACT
This study investigates the functioning approach of high performance work system (HPWS) through professional mentoring on librarians’ job performance. The paper explores Spangenberg’s integrated model of performance. The AMO theory formula P=f (A, M, O) was used to explain the commonality on the influence of professional development on job performance.
The study adopted survey research method using Z-test and regression analysis to estimate relationship in the variables. The population of the study consists of 174 librarians from 10 university libraries of federal and state owned universities in South-East zones of Nigeria. Trends In Review Of Educational Research Systematic Reviews And Implications For Supporting Graduate Students, Ashlynn Kogut
Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
Graduate students in education at my university conduct systematic reviews (SRs) as part of their dissertations as well as for publications. During the initial consultation with a graduate student, I often review the steps of a SR and suggest resources about the SR methodology. Yet, students seem to prefer to utilize journals articles as a guide, even though these example articles might not report all the SR steps. For example, limiting a search to peer reviewed journals is frequently used as a quality indicator, despite critical appraisal or quality assessment of the included articles being one of the key steps …

Keynote Address: Curating The History Of Covid-19, Jeremy Myntti
Faculty Publications
Many libraries and archives have a mission to document local or regional history and current events. Rapid response collecting during a crisis has become increasingly necessary in recent years in order to curate content during an event rather than after the event has concluded. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, libraries across the world recognized the importance of documenting contemporary history for the current and future study of the pandemic. Many projects were created to document different aspects of the pandemic, each with a slightly different focus based on types of content, populations, or regions. This talk will …
Toward A Crip Provenance: Centering Disability In Archives Through Its Absence, Gracen M. Brilmyer
Toward A Crip Provenance: Centering Disability In Archives Through Its Absence, Gracen M. Brilmyer
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
Using the records that document the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition as a case study, this article discusses the messiness and unknowability of provenance. Drawing attention to how the concept of provenance can emphasize the reconstruction of a fonds when records have been moved, rearranged, and dispersed, this article draws attention to the ‘curative’ and ‘rehabilitative’ orientations of established notions of provenance. Put in conversation with disability studies scholarship, which critiques rehabilitating, curing, and restoring, this article outlines the theoretical scaffolding of a crip provenance: a disability-centered framework of resisting the desire to restore and instead meets records where they are …

Reference Service, Government Information, And Covid-19, Angela Hackstadt, Abigail D. Adams
University Libraries Faculty Scholarship
The authors designed and distributed two surveys to answer the questions of whether the 2020 federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic affected academic librarians’ trust in government information, and whether it affected the way they use government information professionally. The results showed a limited decrease in trust in 2020, somewhat mitigated by the administration turnover in 2021. Many librarians already discussed considerations such as bias, authority, and disinformation when recommending government information to students, and others indicated they are more likely to do so going forward. They will also use or suggest more caution with government documents than before. Reference …

The Conceptualisation Of The Provisioning Of Assistive Resources For Patrons With Visual Impairment Within Academic Libraries In Zimbabwe, Mthokozisi Masumbika Ncube, Chipo Mutongi, Mercy Kurebwa
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The introduction of assistive resources within academic libraries in the 20th century positively affected library users (patrons) since they eased information access challenges for patrons living with impairments. However, most academic libraries in developing countries are still grappling with challenges relating to ensuring adequate services to patrons with visual impairment. Given this problem, this paper seeks to provide a better overview and understanding of what provisioning of assistive resources entails. Such an understanding would aid decision-making in academic libraries on the specific resources that should be acquired for patrons with visual impairment. In addition, this paper also went on …
