Females In The Midwest And Great Plains, 1815-1890: An Annotated Bibliography, Jane Maree Kemp-Ulfers
Females In The Midwest And Great Plains, 1815-1890: An Annotated Bibliography, Jane Maree Kemp-Ulfers
Graduate Research Papers
Historians have traditionally viewed the Westward Movement in terms of the male experience and ignored the role of women completely. Because the woman's role in the settlement of the West was often a domestic role, it has been assigned little importance. Women were, however, instrumental in the pioneering of the West, especially in the Midwest and Great Plains. History textbooks often provide little information on women. The use of supplemental materials will, therefore, greatly add to a student's understanding of women and their contributions to American history. In addition, the inclusion of literature in the study of history can make …

Short Subjects: Athens And Sparta: The Archivist And Resource Allocators, Harley P. Holden
Provenance, Journal of the Society of Georgia Archivists
One result of the social, economic, and technological changes and developments of the past two decades has been an increased monetary pressure on educational institutions. Rare is the academic or other nonprofit institution that has not found it necessary to mount a fund-raising campaign. Economic pressures on educational institutions are not new nor are efforts to solve them. What is new is the intensity and pervasiveness. of monetary accountability, the professionalism . employed in fund raising, and the web of involvement that affects everyone in an administrative position, no matter how minor. Fiscal responsibilities that once were confined to the …

The Acetate Negative Survey, David G. Horvath
The Acetate Negative Survey, David G. Horvath
Faculty and Staff Scholarship
Beginning in the early 1970s curators, librarians, and archivists in charge of collections containing historical photographic negatives began to notice that certain portions of their collections were beginning to display serious deterioration. The damage observed typically included badly distorted negatives showing severe shrinkage. Also, because of the base shrinkage, the various layers of the film laminate were becoming separated, making the negative unprintable. The smell of acetic acid accompanied this phenomenon.
Because these negatives had been manufactured relatively recently, it was obvious that these negatives were not on cellulose nitrate base and that they were in fact "safety" negatives. At …
