The Library Media Program And The Mildly Retarded Adolescent, Barbara Feuerhak

Graduate Research Papers

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a personal plan of enrichment on library use by thirteen mildly mentally retarded adolescents, ages 14-18, These students were members of a special education class at Tripoli High School, Tripoli, Iowa. The Provenance Of Provenance In Germanic Areas, Maynard Brichford Jan 1989

The Provenance Of Provenance In Germanic Areas, Maynard Brichford

Provenance, Journal of the Society of Georgia Archivists

The conventional story is that the principle of provenance was "formulated at the French National Archives" in the 1820s and adopted gradually in nineteenth century Europe as a response to the necessity to organize archival material for scholarly research. Based on the 1841 French statement concerning respect des fonds in departmental archives, the Prussian edict of 1881, the publication of the classical and neutral formulation by Muller, Feith, and Fruin in 1898, and the international ratification at the Brussels Conference in 1910, the principle of provenance became a governing factor in archival arrangement.

Lesbian And Gay, Polly Thistlethwaite, Daniel C. Tsang Jan 1989

Lesbian And Gay, Polly Thistlethwaite, Daniel C. Tsang

Publications and Research

"The time is past when librarians can assume no patron is lesbian or gay, or that there is no interest in gay research," Dan Tsang and Polly Thistlethwaite wrote in the introduction to the 'Lesbian and Gay' section of Katzes' 1989 edition of Magazines for Libraries. This title review of the queer periodicals of the day was intended to serve as a guide and justification for 'mainstream' libraries' collection building. The number and range of titles in Thistlethwaite and Tsang's collaborative entries (1989, 1992, and 1995) far exceeded any mainstream library collection known to either of the authors who …

Unobtrusive Studies And The Quality Of Academic Library Reference Services, Jo Bell Whitlatch Jan 1989

Unobtrusive Studies And The Quality Of Academic Library Reference Services, Jo Bell Whitlatch

Faculty Publications

This article uses empirical data from a recent obtrusive study of reference performance to explore content validity and assumptions regarding unobtrusive studies. Data collected by author support the contention that improvements are highly desirable before conducting more unobtrusive studies of reference service. The two most important changes concern the development of test questions representing all types of queries and supplementing the correct fill rate with other measures of reference performance.
