Data Disaggregation: The Case Of Asian And Pacific Islander Data And The Role Of Health Sciences Librarians, Seema Bhakta
Data Disaggregation: The Case Of Asian And Pacific Islander Data And The Role Of Health Sciences Librarians, Seema Bhakta
Articles, Abstracts, and Reports
Health disparities within Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities are often masked due to aggregated data. Lack of adequate data limits required health care services for these communities. While moving forward toward health equity, it is critical that disparities for API communities are acknowledged and addressed. This article focuses on the issues of aggregated data for API communities followed by suggestions on how health sciences librarians can support and promote better practices for data disaggregation.

Post-Harvest Technology Information Awareness Of Agro-Based Women Entrepreneurs In Abia State, Nigeria, Amarachi Confidence Ukpabi Ph.D , Library And Information Science, Ukpabi Joseph Ukpabi Phd, Food Science And Technology
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The quantities of agricultural commodities wasted during the post-harvest handling, storage, processing, packaging, distribution and marketing are considered unacceptably high in Abia State, Nigeria. Though the state has a sizeable number of agro-based women entrepreneurs, and a national agricultural research institute that is noteworthy in post-harvest technology (PHT) research and documentation yet, there are substantial decrease in food quality, reduced financial value and heavy losses of agricultural produce after bumper harvests in an era when agricultural research scientists have conceived improved post-harvest technologies that ought to address these problems. This study was conducted therefore, to identify the extent of awareness …

These libraries have proper websites, classified books, adequate sitting arrangements, and a heating and cooling system to support the community. Though, these libraries were facing some major challenges such as lack of sufficient funds, lack of …

Assessing Undergraduates Social Competence On Social Media In Nigeria, 'Niran Adetoro Prof, Benedict Ifeanyi Okike
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Undergraduates are known to be early adopters and users of social media and are socially competent online as against offline. The study sought to determine the social competence of students as exhibited on social media against the background of a growing decline in undergraduates’ offline social relevance. Using survey research design of correlative type, 850 undergraduates in similar faculties in two selected Universities in South west Nigeria were selected using multi-stage sampling. Questionnaire was used to collect data; reliability score of (α = 0.82) was derived for social competence on social media and (α = 0.88) for students’ use of …

Context, Relevance, And Labor, Wayne De Fremery, Michael K. Buckland
Context, Relevance, And Labor, Wayne De Fremery, Michael K. Buckland
Barowsky School of Business | Faculty Scholarship
Since information science concerns the transmission of records, it concerns context. The transmission of documents ensures their arrival in new contexts. Documents and their copies are spread across times and places. The amount of labor required to discover and retrieve relevant documents is also formulated by context. Thus, any serious consideration of communication and of information technologies quickly leads to a concern with context, relevance, and labor. Information scientists have developed many theories of context, relevance, and labor but not a framework for organizing them and describing their relationship with one another. We propose the words context and relevance can …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
There are more than 12 library schools in Pakistan producing around 1,000 graduates every year. These graduates hold 16-year BS or MLIS professional qualifications. There is no calculated estimate available concerning the number of related jobs and the vacant ones in the country. Therefore, it is not possible to determine the number of LIS graduates required in the country within a particular span. The academic libraries especially in the public sector accommodate most of such graduates. The current job market has become oversaturated as we carefully observe around five candidates against one entry-level position in the public sector on average. …
