In 2015, West Coast Baptist College purchased an 80,000 volume library collection from a closing Bible institution. During 2017-2020, both the original 40,000 volume collection and purchased 80,000 volume collection were merged, relocated to a larger facility, thoroughly weeded into a 60,000 volume collection, and converted from Dewey Decimal Classification into the Library of Congress Classification. This article summarizes several factors to consider on switching classifications and our experience from the conversion process

But I was an English major as an undergrad. What do I know about biblical theology resources? If this type of thought has crossed your mind, you are not alone! No one can know everything about every academic discipline. There are people who know, however, who can help us develop a more complete library collection. But guess what? They do not know everything either! It takes the collective effort of many to truly provide a well-rounded collection that supports your degree programs. Collaboration is key, especially for solo librarians with limited time and resources, but this applies to all librarians. The …

Term Circles: Using Linked Data As A Tool To Mitigate Colonial Subject Bias, F. Tim Knight
Librarian Publications & Presentations
This paper considers the Canadian Federation of Library Associations (CFLA) recommendation to “decolonize library access and classification” and begins by exploring the difficulty involved when addressing this recommendation working from within a colonial institution that represents a colonial worldview. It compares general characteristics of Western and Indigenous worldviews and considers the affect that these perspectives have on the organization of knowledge and information especially in relation to a controlled subject vocabulary like the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). It presents the “term circle” as a way to mitigate colonial biases by creating a hybrid subject language system using SKOS …

ABSTRACT
This research work was designed to explore the role of school libraries in the implementation of the UBE programme in UBE Junior Secondary Schools in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State. A total number of one hundred and forty school library users (students and teachers) from four selected UBE Junior Secondary Schools were surveyed using a researcher developed questionnaire to collect data for the study. Descriptive statistical analysis was used; frequencies and percentages were generated from which the research questions formulated for the study were answered. The study revealed that there are no school libraries in the UBE …

When popular media and many individuals discuss changes in English, some erroneously contend that the language has always been the same and changes amount to little more than “politically correct woke liberalism” desired by only certain people. The English language continually evolves as a natural process that nothing can force nor prevent. Field-specific language also changes with increased understanding and knowledge. The variety of English taught to most students also shifts as Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC)/Writing Across Disciplines (WAD) initiatives increasingly focus on Global English rather than the standard of any one country or group. Even informal interactions with …

Graduate Librarian Support Through The Thesis And Dissertation Journey, Henri Mondschein
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
Graduate students need highly customized support as they navigate through the various stages of their thesis or dissertation journeys. Many of these students are overwhelmed by the volume of research and just need that compassionate librarian to guide them through the labyrinth of databases to those elusive but critical papers and empirical studies. At California Lutheran University I provide a personalized approach to providing thesis and dissertation support to master’s-level, Ed.D and Psy.D students during crucial milestones of their journeys. My graduate librarian support features one-on-one research consultations, guidance with searching the literature, some writing and editing support, and finally …

Revisiting The One-Minute Paper: Personal Reflections, Student Engagement And Assessing The Assessment, Rebecca Pappert Maniates
Research Collection Library
The one-minute paper (OMP) is a popular one-shot session assessment which often consists of asking two questions: 1 . What is the most important thing you learned today? 2 . What questions do you still have? Although simple, each question has a purpose. The first is broad, focusing on the importance of concepts learned (Chizmar & Ostrosky, 1998), and promotes active learning and reflection (Stead, 2005). The second assesses the progress of the learning process and where support is still needed (Chizmar & Ostrosky, 1998).Although studies show the OMP is effective when assessing student knowledge before and after one-shot sessions …

“Describing Without Identifying”: The Phenomenological Role Of Gender In Cataloging Practices, Travis L. Wagner
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation explores gendering practices of visual information catalogers. The work aims to understand how catalogers perceive gender when describing persons within visual information. The qualitative study deployed queer interpretative phenomenological analysis to understand how catalogers think broadly about describing identity. The infused queer theoretical tenets helped to understand that while participants may not directly name gender as challenging, the conflation of gender into cisnormative monoliths (assuming every person's gender matches their sex-assigned-at birth) or silence around gender produce telling opinions concerning nonbinary gender. The research also utilized a Think Aloud exercise wherein participants undertook in-the-moment cataloging three moving images. …

JETstream: Library Newsletter
The arrival of spring generally brings to mind thoughts and images of new beginnings, op-timism and a sense of resili-ence after a long winter’s sea-son. This current issue of JETstream seems to reflect similar sentiments. Although the JET Library continued to seamlessly provide its services to the Molloy Community throughout the pandemic, be-ing able to interact and en-gage with our students in per-son has been beyond com-pare! One of our most exciting new ventures has been the intro-duction of the Learning Com-mons into the JET Library as part of a pilot program. Counternarratives Of Color: Race In Queer Archiving, Sanjula Rajat
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
This research aims to better understand how race figures into the policies, processes, and materials at IHLIA LGBT Heritage, Europe’s largest LGBT-focused archive. By situating IHLIA within the broader history of alternative archives and Dutch homonationalism, the different ways in which race is an important consideration for the archive is examined. Particular attention is paid to the history, organization and location of the archive as well as the publicly funded nature of IHLIA to better understand the possibilities and limitations posed by the notion of an LGBT archive as opposed to a queer(ed) archive.

The Anchor: 2022
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

From Digital Commons To Alma/Primo: A Systems Interoperability Project, Sara Hoover, Jolinda L. Thompson
From Digital Commons To Alma/Primo: A Systems Interoperability Project, Sara Hoover, Jolinda L. Thompson
Himmelfarb Library Faculty Posters and Presentations
Background: In 2018 our library migrated to Ex Libris’s Alma and its discovery service Primo. Alma allows content from OAI-PMH compliant archives to be loaded to Primo for discovery. Our library has a Digital Commons institutional repository (IR) system and librarians were eager to explore including IR content in Primo. Post-migration a feed was established between the IR and Primo, but there were issues with adding all IR content and the feed was removed. Consequently, we wanted to explore alternatives that would allow for the integration of more selective IR content.
Description: For our pilot project, we explored the possibility …

Reimagine The Possibilities: Shifting A Peer-Reference Program From In-Person To Online To Hybrid, Lydia C. Gwyn
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
In 2017, the Sherrod Library at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) launched the Library Ambassador Program (LAP), a peer-reference program through which trained undergraduate students employed by the library are stationed in buildings across campus to help students with their research. Just as the LAP was gaining traction as an effective avenue of research help, our college made the quick transition to online mode due to the spread of COVID-19 in our region. This presentation will discuss the hidden value we found in shifting our program online and how the LAP functions now in a hybrid space, supporting information literacy …

Note to reviewers: This proposal is for a presentation that builds on what I meant to present at the 2021 conference. Due to a storm, a black-out occurred, and I couldn’t get back online in time to present most of it because my computer was so slow. The GICOIL moderator kindly offered me a break-out room at the end of the day, but only two people showed up, and an informal conversation was more suited. This proposal expands on that presentation and elaborates on what I did this year. I have a much faster computer now and will log in …
