Taxonomy Of Communication Noise Impacting The Quality Of Library Resources, Emmanuel Ifeduba, Benedette Ogoo Unuigboje Mrs
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Frequently media reports draw attention to errors in published books and other publications. Sometimes the reports emanate from libraries and schools that bicker with suppliers of flawed publications. Notwithstanding much of the noise-related research in information science literature focus on noise within and around libraries and schools; and fail to explore the breadth and depth of this phenomenon described as communication noise. This study, therefore, aims to explore the breadth and depth of communication noise by identifying, describing and classifying the various types affecting information quality with a view to finding solutions to them. This is a taxonomical study of …

Library Publishing Curriculum
Publishing is a process with numerous moving parts; systems, workflows, guidelines, and documentation are crucial for a program’s success. This unit provides answers to the following questions: What’s needed to support an author or journal editor from submission through publication? What are the workflows for file preparation, the production process, and distribution? How do you manage text-based digital and possible print editions? What staff skills are required to support a publishing program? What resources can be drawn upon to assist you as you build your program?

Library Publishing Curriculum
Long the primary role of university presses, faculty’s long-form scholarship is now being created and disseminated with the help of many types of publishers. Whether it’s an edited volume, a symposium collection, conference proceedings, or a single-authoredwork, most successful long-form scholarly texts are organized around an expected set of elements. Understanding the need for and purpose of each of these elements ensures that the publisher can help an author create an effective work and the reader can navigate the materials successfully. Additional common goals for long-form programs include working with an author to write a well-structured publication containing a coherent …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study investigated the organizational commitment of information professionals working at university libraries in Pakistan. Survey method was adopted using a questionnaire to collect data from 329 information professionals of Punjab and Islamabad. The questionnaire contained 18-items measure of organizational commitment, developed by Meyer, Allen and Smith (1993), along with certain demographic variables. Each statement was measured on 5-point Likert scale (e.g. 1=Strongly Disagree, 2=Disagree, 3= Neutral, 4=Agree, 5= Strongly Agree). The collected data were analysed by applying descriptive as well as inferential statistics in SPSS. Results indicated that information professionals were slightly committed to their organizations and most of …

As the 5G technology is going to be deployed soon, so the research on the 5G antennas as a part of communication devices becomes an important aspect. One of the important components of the 5G communication system is an antenna that is essential for the transmission and reception of the 5G signals. The international telecommunication union (ITU) has provided different specifications for the 5G communication system. The 5G antenna should operate at frequency range 1 and 2 (FR1 and FR2) specified by the ITU. The proliferation of various 5G antenna designs is surveyed in this bibliometric paper. Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This paper aims to study the significance/importance of “empiricism”, “rationalism” and “positivism” and their application in library and information science (LIS) research. The objectives of this paper covered in two parts. Part one describes the historical development of these epistemologies, explore its main characteristics and presents the criticism that has been nurtured against these views. In the second part, the importance and use of these epistemologies in the context of LIS research have been discussed. Since philosophy is the least touched subject in LIS, therefore, limited literature is available to review these epistemologies from the perspective of LIS.

University Libraries Faculty Publications
The data quality of commercial business and financial databases greatly affects research quality and reliability. The presence of data quality problems can not only distort research results, destroy a research effort but also seriously damage management decisions based upon such research. Although library literature rarely discusses data quality problems, business literature reports a wide range of data quality issues, many of which have been systematically tested with statistical methods. This article reviews a collection of the business literature that provides a critical analysis on the data quality of the most frequently used business and finance databases including the Center for …

Cataloguing Education In The Midst Of The Coronavirus (Covid-19): The Authors Perspectives., Madireng Monyela
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The nature of cataloguing modules requires face-to-face interactions between lecturers and students for the explanation of concepts and the practical use of manuals and standards applied. Due to Covid-19 outbreak that led to lockdown in many countries and consequently to closure of the face to face universities, teaching and learning should be altered to continue with the university mandate. This paper investigated Cataloguing Education (CE) and suggest relevant approaches of CE outside the traditional classroom context. This research employed the qualitative approach grounded on documents/textual content analysis of literature and the experiences attained by the author. Findings revealed that cataloguing …

Identity, Harm, And Hate In Special Collections, Henry M. Handley
Marian Library Faculty Presentations
LIS studies of diversity, equity, and inclusion frequently separate workplace interpersonal issues from collections issues, divorcing organizational culture from organizational collections, especially in special collections. Weeding harmful or hateful materials from circulating collections can lead to their transfer to special collections, where library and archives workers as well as their users can be impacted. This presentation addresses assumptions of an unmarginalized, neutral, and impervious arbiter in special collections and suggests solutions to give special collections workers and users agency and accommodation in the types of materials they are asked to handle, based in scholarship from BIPOC, LGBTQ, and disabled library …

Oddpub – A Text-Mining Algorithm To Detect Data Sharing In Biomedical Publications, Nico Riedel, Miriam Kip, Evgeny Bobrov
Copyright, Fair Use, Scholarly Communication, etc.
Open research data are increasingly recognized as a quality indicator and an important resource to increase transparency, robustness and collaboration in science. However, no standardized way of reporting Open Data in publications exists, making it difficult to find shared datasets and assess the prevalence of Open Data in an automated fashion.
We developed ODDPub (Open Data Detection in Publications), a text-mining algorithm that screens biomedical publications and detects cases of Open Data. Using English-language original research publications from a single biomedical research institution (n = 8689) and randomly selected from PubMed (n = 1500) we iteratively developed a …

Building Trust When Truth Fractures, Brewster Kahle
Charleston Library Conference
In our current era of disinformation, ready access to trustworthy sources is critical. “Fake news,” sophisticated disinformation campaigns, and propaganda distort the common reality, polarize communities, and threaten open democratic systems. What citizens, journalists, and policymakers need is a canonical source of trusted information. For millions, that trusted source resides in the books and journals housed in libraries, curated and vetted by librarians. Yet today, as we turn inevitably to our screens for information, if a book isn’t digital, it is as if it doesn’t exist.
To address this gap, the Internet Archive is actively working with the world’s great …
