Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have greatly influenced access, management and dissemination of information. ICTs have become central to education and training in Library and Information Science/Service (LIS) because of the great influence of these technologies on the professional world. Information professionals are increasingly required to adapt their skills and practice in order to gain an awareness of technological advances. It has changed their role in the workplace with new and diverse skills requirements. Student Perceptions Of The Efficacy Of A Required Information Literacy Test In The First Academic Year, Howard S. Carrier, David Vess, Kathy Clarke
The Southeastern Librarian
This paper reports on how one university attempts to instruct all incoming students on information literacy fundamentals using an asynchronous test supported by a suite of related materials. The paper explores how students interpret the efficacy of this model as they move further along in their academic career. Using a mixed-methods approach, with the majority of data being obtained through focus groups, the researchers (librarians employed in the library through which the test is developed), reflect on the advantages and disadvantages to this model, and suggest improvements to further ensure student engagement with this type of information literacy instruction and …

Descriptive survey research design of the correlational type and total enumeration method was adopted. A self-developed questionnaire was administered to 287 postgraduate students. A total of 203(70.73%) copies of questionnaires were returned and analysed using frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation and pie chart.
The findings of the study revealed that the level of research self-efficacy of postgraduate students in selected universities …

Subject-Package Measures To Understand The Value Provided By Journal Packages, Heidi J. Southworth, Evan Rusch, Nat Gustafson-Sundell
Library Services Publications
At Minnesota State University Mankato (MNSU), we have been exploring new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for journal packages. Most recently, we started developing subject-package measures as a category, including as a measure of utility or as a measure of supply. Although we could previously combine filters per subject and per package, this caused us to narrow data to a single subject. Now, we can display the results for all subjects and packages as one table, which empowers us to make comparisons easily, to understand the value we gain from our packages better, and to see any subject impacts of cancellations …

Rock music lyrics are often denied their status as influential pieces of literature in much the same way, it seems, as graphic novels, but both are no less effective in conveying a message or eliciting a powerful feeling. Not until October 2016, when Bob Dylan became the first songwriter to win the Nobel Prize in literature since 1913, did lyrics truly get a step closer to being recognized as literature within the boundaries of rock music (Chaudhuri, 2016)? This study was designed to help inspire others to take up the torch to further research: the influence and the power that …

It highlights the evolution of modern public libraries from mere book repositories to thriving community centers for education and personal growth. Fan spaces offer a unique opportunity for fans to come together and interact with people who share their interests. Today, you can find fandoms for almost every piece of media, person, or group (Ewens, 2020). These can be rich communities that produce both digital and physical works related to their interest. The physical works that predated the digital have included things like fan-published zines which were often shared at a convention. While these are still popular, the last few decades have seen more and more digital spaces emerging. Artists are selling works on sites like Etsy, Redbubble, and Gumroad. Digital …

Libraries On The Inside: A Study Of Public Library Outreach To Correctional Institutions, Annaliese Melvin

In 1911, the American Library Association (ALA) formed its first committee on prison libraries. While this committee opened the door to important conversations on correctional libraries, the ALA did not actively become involved in correctional systems until 1944, when the Objectives and Standards for Libraries in Adult Prisons and Reformatories were approved (Austin, 2019). The real catalyst for creating nationwide libraries for the incarcerated came in 1971, when “Congress passed the Law Enforcement Administration Act, which funded prison law libraries and provided budgets for other reading materials” (Sullivan, 2000, p. 57). This led to what was coined the “golden age …
