Altruism And Professionalism: Boston And The Rise Of Organized Legal Aid, 1900-1925, Part Ii, Michael Grossberg
Articles by Maurer Faculty
The Boston Legal Aid Society was founded in 1900. In the years after 1910, led by General Counsel Reginald Heber Smith, the Society assumed leadership of the fledgling movement to offer legal services to the urban poor. Under its influence the first organized attack on the legal problems of the impoverished was launched. The effort had its origins in the social and professional crises that beset turn of the century American cities and lawyers. As described in the first installment of this article, the major difficulty facing the movement during this generative era was how to balance the conflicting demands …

The N.F.L.'S Final Victory Over Smith V. Pro-Football, Inc.: Single Entity - Interleague Economic Analysis, Terrance Ahern
Cleveland State Law Review
The financial expansion of the N.F.L. has been accompanied by the promulgation of league rules to ensure league stability. These rules include several player service market restraints, which have been adopted by the N.F.L. to ensure competitive equality between the franchises. This note analyzes the validity of these restraints under the Sherman Antitrust Act in light of the recent decision of the District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals in Smith v. Pro Football, Inc. and presents a new approach to the economic structure of the N.F.L. which may validate the current restraints.

Demanding Human Rights: A Change In The World Legal Order, Eric Lane
Demanding Human Rights: A Change In The World Legal Order, Eric Lane
Hofstra Law Review
President Carter's recognition of universal standards of human rights, and his formulation of a foreign policy at least partially based on such recognition, has been the object of both foreign and domestic criticism, which at first glance'appears inexplicably severe. In the context of the present world legal order, however, the administration's expressed intention to pursue a policy directed toward a worldwide guarantee of human rights represents a potentially radical departure from the legal tenets which have governed world political interaction for the last 300 years.

War Crimes Jurisdiction And Due Process: The Bangladesh Experience, Jordan J. Paust, Albert P. Blaustein
War Crimes Jurisdiction And Due Process: The Bangladesh Experience, Jordan J. Paust, Albert P. Blaustein
Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law
Must any state that holds and controls prisoners either prosecute those accused of having committed serious violations of international law or extradite them to a state that will prosecute? Finally, would similar breaches of international law by India or Indian troops obviate any jurisdictional competence or duties of India or Bangladesh?
The questions seemed unusual, at least in view of the past practices of international tribunals of the United States in prosecutions of its nationals. Specific criminal applications of relevant international norms had been relatively sparse.' There were problems with the applicability of international norms to Bangladesh, especially during the …
