Executive Order 12,114 - Environmental Effects Abroad: Does It Really Further The Purpose Of Nepa, Francis M. Allegra
Executive Order 12,114 - Environmental Effects Abroad: Does It Really Further The Purpose Of Nepa, Francis M. Allegra
Cleveland State Law Review
Executive order 12,144 is a cross-product of two separate vectors. On one axis it is a statement of foreign policy directing administrative review of the extra territorial environmental effects of major federal activities. On the other it is an alleged resolution of a long-standing intergovernmental controversy concerning the applicability of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 to major federal actions having solely nondomestic environmental impacts. In either context, the Order should be viewed as an attempt by the United States to assume a more responsible role in world environmental affairs. This note will examine the Executive Order and compare …

The Patentability Of Living Microorganisms: Diamond V. Chakrabarty, Daniel H. Foote
Articles
Microbiologists have made great advances in modifying gene structures to create new forms of life. In Diamond v. Chakrabarty, the Supreme Court addressed for the first time the patentability of a living microorganism. In a 5-4 decision that has been condemned as heralding the advent of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, the Court held that the living nature of a microorganism is no bar to patenting it.

There Is A Fountain: The Autobiography Of A Civil Rights Lawyer / Legal Regulation Of The Competitive Process, Leonard B. Boudin, Kenneth B. Germain
Vanderbilt Law Review
There is a Fountain: The Autobiography of a Civil Rights Lawyer Reviewed by Leonard B. Boudin --
This book is unlike other good legal autobiographies, such as those of D.N. Pritt,' Clarence Darrow, and more recently Charles Morgan," for Lynn throughout his life was very poor, a radical and, most importantly, Black. Those portions of his autobiography that recount his political life in college and in later years make exciting and important reading. Lynn was the only member of the Young Communist League at Syracuse University in the early 1930s, and was a member of the American Communist Party in his …

Military Uses Of Ocean Space And The Developing International Law Of The Sea: An Analysis In The Context Of Peactime Asw, Rex J. Zedalis
San Diego Law Review
Mr. Zedalis examines the international legal prescriptions regulating peacetime military uses of ocean space other than passage through straits used for international navigation. He contrasts the approaches to possible regimes set forth in the 1958 Conventions and in UNCLOS III and assesses each. Finally, he advances which proposal is the most desirable.
