Cross Cultural Reflections: Teaching The Charter To Americans, Jamie Cameron
Cross Cultural Reflections: Teaching The Charter To Americans, Jamie Cameron
Osgoode Hall Law Journal
In this article, the author discusses a course in Comparative Constitutional Jurisprudence that she taught at Cornell Law School in the winter semester of 1989. She is particularly interested in the way this class of American students responded to the Supreme Court of Canada's interpretation of the Charter. She presents her reflections on differences between Canadian and American constitutional culture through a discussion of the decisions in The Motor Vehicle Reference, R. v. Morgentaler, and The French Language Case.
Feminism Historicized: Medieval Misogynist Stereotypes In Contemporary Feminist Jurisprudence, Jeanne L. Schroeder
Feminism Historicized: Medieval Misogynist Stereotypes In Contemporary Feminist Jurisprudence, Jeanne L. Schroeder
Articles
The article argues that contemporary feminist theories are ahistorical and culturally narrow, often mirroring medieval misogynist stereotypes by assuming that late-twentieth-century, white, upper-middle-class American experiences represent universal truths about gender. By examining medieval canon law and societal norms, the analysis reveals that patriarchal structures have persisted across time, adapting to different cultural definitions of masculinity and femininity. The author advocates for a more historically and cross-culturally informed approach to jurisprudence and gender theory to avoid replicating past oppressions.

Using Management Techniques To Solve Environmental Problems, Patrick D. Kelly
Using Management Techniques To Solve Environmental Problems, Patrick D. Kelly
RISK: Health, Safety & Environment (1990-2002)
Arguing that little effective progress is being made in solving problems of varying urgency, this paper suggests a leadership role for science and engineering societies. It proposes that such societies attempt to prioritize problems and attempt to focus public awareness (and calls to action) in a more systematic way.
