Betts V. Brady Twenty Years Later: The Right To Counself And Due Process Values, Yale Kamisar
Michigan Law Review
I am quite distressed by talk that the landmark case of Mapp v. Ohio "suggests by analogy" that the Court may now overrule Betts v. Brady. For whether one talks about the fourth or the sixth amendment, there is much to be said for Justice Harlan's dissenting views in Mapp. "[W]hatever configurations ... have been developed in the particularizing federal precedents" should not be "deemed a part of 'ordered liberty,' and as such ... enforceable against the States .... [W]e would not be true to the Fourteenth Amendment were we merely to stretch the general principle [ of …

Adminstrative Law—Driver's License Suspension—Opportunity To Be Heard, Fred D. Smith
Washington Law Review
In Gnecchi v. State the Washington Supreme Court failed to take advantage of an opportunity to discredit the right-privilege dichotomy, a concept which the court has used in the past to determine a citizen's interest in his driver's license. The court continued to consider the driver's license a privilege which may be revoked or suspended without a hearing.

Administrative Law—Standing To Challenge Constitutionality Of Loyalty Oath, David C. Lycette
Washington Law Review
In Nostrand v. Little, the Washington State Supreme Court had an opportunity to pass on the much publicized loyalty oath required of certain state employees. Against a charge that procedural due process was violated because the statute calls for immediate dismissal upon non-compliance, the court found that the oath abridged no constitutional rights of the plaintiffs, two University of Washington professors.

STUDENT SYMPOSIUM ON JURISDICTION AND VENUE:
The place of trial of an action has great significance at all stages of litigation, from service of process through execution of the judgment. In this symposium, the writers examine and criticize developments in the determinants of place of trial-jurisdictioi and venue-in state and federal courts. The three notes are directed to differing aspects, pointing out differences in policy as regards the treatment of corporations and individuals and even differences in policy between federal and state courts in the treatment of corporations.
The first note criticizes the trend toward statutory and judicial expansion of …

Michigan Law Review
Defendant was charged under a federal statute' with the publication and distribution of a pamphlet which concerned a candidate for United States Senator in a special senatorial election and which did not contain the name of the person or group responsible for its publication and distribution as required by the statute. The defendant alleged that his occupation as a farmer made him particularly subject to regulation by the federal government, and that he feared coercion or reprisals from the federal representatives with whom he dealt if he complied with the statute's disclosure requirement. On motion to dismiss the information on …
