Jerome Frank's Contributions To The Philosophy Of American Legal Realism, Julius Paul

Vanderbilt Law Review

Justice Holmes' famous statement that "the life of the law has not been logic: it has been experience' has had a profound effect on contemporary American jurisprudence. Holmes' monumental influence, together with the impact of positivism, American pragmatism, and more recently, psychoanalysis, have all played important roles in shaping the development of the school of American legal realism.

One of the most controversial and provocative members of this school was Jerome Frank, who was not only a prolific writer on matters legal, but also an eminent corporation lawyer, a government counsel, an administrator (a Commissioner and later Chairman of the Securities …

Law School Catalogues

General Statement:

The Law School was established as a part of Richmond College in 1870. In 1890 the family of the late Mr. T. C. Williams, who had been a devoted and useful trustee, donated $25,000 as the nucleus of an endowment for the Law School. In recognition of this gift, the name of the School was changed to The T. C. Should The Rule Against Perpetuities Discard Its Vest?, Daniel M. Schuyler Mar 1958

Should The Rule Against Perpetuities Discard Its Vest?, Daniel M. Schuyler

Michigan Law Review

The venerable rule of property known as the rule against perpetuities has recently been subjected to numerous searching and critical analyses, some of which will presently be discussed. Thus far nothing has been published dealing with, and only Professor Simes has touched upon, what seems to the present writer to be the most serious problem engendered by the common law rule in its commonly accepted form, i.e., the notion that the rule is concerned only with remoteness of vesting. An Economic Analysis Of Contributions Under The Income Tax Laws, Floyd E. Gillis, Vernon L. Smith Jan 1958

An Economic Analysis Of Contributions Under The Income Tax Laws, Floyd E. Gillis, Vernon L. Smith

Economics Faculty Articles and Research

In this note classical tools are used to examine the treatment of "gifts in kind" under the federal income-tax laws as they were but a few years ago, as they are today, and as they should be, given the objective that the law appears to be trying to achieve. It will be demonstrated that, under certain conditions, firms today can maximize profit after taxes by producing some output to be given to acceptable charities.
