Right-Wing French Media Coverage Of The Rassemblement National’S 2027 Presidential Candidates, Amelinda Sundari, Myrna Laksman-Huntley
International Review of Humanities Studies
The 2027 French presidential election has become a contest over political legitimacy, and the media play a key role in shaping candidates’ images. Within the right-wing camp, Rassemblement National (RN) presents two potential figures, Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella. Le Pen faces legal threats that could prevent her candidacy, while Bardella is projected as a successor to represent RN in the contest. Drawing on framing theory Pan & Kosicki (1993) and Critical Discourse Analysis Fairclough (1995), this qualitative study investigates right-wing French media preferences between these two candidates. The analysis examines three articles each from Le Figaro and Le …

Sahel Region In French Postcolonial Discourse: Macron's Production Of Space And Security Rhetoric, Azzahrah F. A Putri, Abellia Anggi Wardani Dr.
International Review of Humanities Studies
Between the Sahara Desert and the Sudanese Savannah, the Sahel region has become a contested geopolitical space. This study analyses how France is reconstructing its hegemony following its military withdrawal through the rhetoric of Emmanuel Macron (2021 and 2025). Using Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough, 1995) and the theory of spatial production (Lefebvre, 1974), this study examines how the discourses of “partnership” and “security” are employed to maintain French influence. Qualitative methods were applied to Macron's speeches, French media, and statements by former presidents of Sahel countries. The results show that France is redefining the Sahel as a ‘crisis zone’ requiring …

The Mediating Role Of Trust: How Cultural Factors Shape Consumer Acceptance Of Chinese Electric Vehicles In Jakarta, Indonesia, Suci Kuswardani, Ike Iswary Lawanda
International Review of Humanities Studies
This study examines the mediating role of consumer trust in the relationship between cultural factors and the purchase intention of Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Jakarta, Indonesia. While global EV adoption is often analyzed through techno-economic lenses, this research addresses a critical gap by investigating the under-explored socio-cultural dimensions that shape consumer behavior in emerging markets. Framed by an integrated theoretical approach combining Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and Reception Theory, the study explores how local cultural values such as collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, and social status filter the acceptance of Chinese EV technology. A qualitative case study …

As one of oral traditions acknowledged in Woloan and Rurukan, Tomohon Minahasa, the songs of mahzani have long been sung in these two areas. As we understand that oral tradition would disappear from its community when it has lost its real function, this particular oral tradition has developed into staged performances. Songs of mahzani that had been practiced for generations as part of the mapalus traditions in the last decades has significantly decreased in line with the change of lifestyle of the people who practice it. Reinterpreting The Kutika Manuscript: A Buginese Ethnoecological Perspective, Rahmatia Ayu Widyaningrum, Priscila Fitriasih Limbong, Titik Pudjiastuti, Mamlahatun -. Buduroh -
International Review of Humanities Studies
This article offers a reinterpretation of the Kutika manuscript from a Buginese ethnoecological perspective. Departing from a philological study of the Lontara’ Kutika text in the National Library of Indonesia (PNRI) collection (code VT 129), this research examines how Buginese communities articulate their interaction with nature through this manuscript. The Kutika text has generally been understood merely as a book of time calculation, yet its background is imbued with philosophical values that show how the Buginese talk to nature, read signs, and treat nature as an equal element rather than a mere object. Using the framework of human ecology, this …

Between Stigma And Survival: Life Narratives Of Vietnamese Brides In China, Weikang Pu, Mina Elfira
International Review of Humanities Studies
The phenomenon of cross-border marriages between Vietnamese women and Chinese men is often reduced by mainstream media to simplified stereotypes—depicting them as victims of human trafficking, impoverished women seeking economic escape, or submissive "imported brides." Such depictions obscure the everyday realities through which these women confront and negotiate social stigma in a foreign socio-cultural environment. Drawing on narrative interviews with ten Vietnamese brides living in different regions of China, this study examines how stigma is experienced and negotiated through everyday survival strategies. Using a qualitative narrative approach, this research explores how participants respond to stigma through practices such as economic …

From The “Paris Of The East” To Modern Phnom Penh: Colonial Legacies In Cambodian Urban Planning, Jin Ke, Ade Solihat
International Review of Humanities Studies
Phnom Penh was once known as the “Paris of the East,” serving as a major urban center in Indochina during the French colonial period. Colonial authorities shaped the city through functional zoning, planned street networks, and European-style architecture, all of which reflected hierarchies of power embedded in urban space. Despite the extensive destruction caused by the Khmer Rouge regime and subsequent postwar reconstruction, traces of colonial urban planning and architectural heritage remain clearly visible in the contemporary development of Phnom Penh. This study adopts a literature-based approach combined with historical analysis, spatial analysis, and architectural case studies to examine how …

Gotong Royong As Political Praxis: Collective Responsibility And Democratic Action, Donny Gahral Adian
International Review of Humanities Studies
This research explores gotong royong, an indigenous Indonesian concept of mutual cooperation, as an alternative political culture in the face of liberal individualism and capitalist competition. Drawing from the philosophical legacy of Soekarno, Indonesia’s founding president, the research situates gotong royong not merely as a traditional value, but as a dynamic political principle grounded in tolerance, solidarity, and social justice. Soekarno’s vision of democracy transcends procedural liberalism by emphasizing equal capabilities, not just equal opportunities, thereby addressing the structural and cultural barriers that hinder political participation for marginalized citizens. Through a comparative lens, the article juxtaposes the atomizing effects …

The Use Of The Term Ukhti On Social Media Platform X In Indonesia, Indah Putri Sobada, Wiwin Triwinarti
International Review of Humanities Studies
This study traces the semantic transformation of the lexicon ukhti within Indonesia’s digital landscape. The term ukhti ( أُ خْ تِي ), derived from Arabic and meaning “my sister,” was initially used as a form of biological kinship address, later evolving into a fictional kinship address. However, in its current usage, the term increasingly conveys exclusivity and produces stereotypical perceptions of Muslim women. This study focuses on the use of ukhti on Indonesia's Social Media Platform X, examining how its meaning has become more specific and how this shift affects the representation of diverse Muslim female identities. Therefore, this study …

Discourse And Ideological Strategies In Presidential Campaign Speeches Of Mr Peter Obi, Richard Oliseyenum Oliseyenum Maledo, Rita Ejiro Enisire
International Review of Humanities Studies
Studies on political speeches in Nigeria have focused essentially on the speeches of political office inaugural speeches and speeches of political office holders, while not much appears to be done on the speeches of candidates who did not succeed in the election. Thus, this study undertakes a critical analysis of discourse and ideological strategies in the presidential campaign speeches of Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, in the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria. Mr Peter Obi's speech in Akwa Ibom State is purposively selected as our data for this study, and Van Dijk’s socio-cognitive approach to …

Educating Medical Trainees On Mental Healthcare And Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Andrea Palmieri, Joan B. Beasley, Micah Peace Urquilla, Jennifer Mclaren
Developmental Disabilities Network Journal
Many children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience mental health conditions and commonly receive treatment with psychotropic medications. Prescribers often overuse these medications in children with IDD, who are frequently treated with polypharmacy and antipsychotics, a trend that continues into adulthood. Medical trainees receive little training regarding the IDD patient population. This paper describes the development and evaluation of an evidence-informed, easy-to-use training curriculum. The 6-hour training establishes a foundation for medical trainees regarding the treatment of mental health conditions in people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD-MH) as part of an integrated health, interdisciplinary treatment approach. …

Legal Paradoxes Of Transition: Transitional Justice And The Rule Of Law Between Nürnberg And Saddam Hussein Trials, Rasha Abdelsamea Ahmed Baghdadi
Theses and Dissertations
ABSTRACT
This thesis critically examines the legal paradoxes embedded within transitional justice (TJ) discourse, using the Nürnberg and Saddam Hussein trials as case studies to interrogate the complex relationship between justice and the rule of law in TJ discourse. It highlights the inherent tension between forward-looking societal reforms and the pursuit of backward-looking justice, challenging the foundational assumptions of TJ as a universal tool for justice and peace. It also questions the validity and credibility of "transition" as a phase between the past and the future. It contends that TJ, driven by Western liberal epistemic foundations, functions as an exclusionary …
Reprioritizing International Patent Law, John R. Thomas
Reprioritizing International Patent Law, John R. Thomas
Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works
Over the past half-century, rapid technological change and globalization have reshaped innovation and intellectual property, yet the foundational international agreements anchoring the global patent system have remained essentially unchanged. The drafters of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) viewed these agreements as dynamic instruments that, through procedural coordination, would rationalize international patent administration. The Paris Convention has resisted reform for decades, however, while the PCT has failed to achieve its goals of reducing examination workloads and fostering worksharing among national patent offices. It now exacerbates the very inefficiencies it sought to …
The Federalism Canons As Ordinary Interpretation, Anthony J. Bellia Jr., Bradford R. Clark
The Federalism Canons As Ordinary Interpretation, Anthony J. Bellia Jr., Bradford R. Clark
Northwestern University Law Review
Scholars remain generally skeptical of substantive canons of statutory interpretation even as courts continue to employ such canons in important cases. Unlike semantic canons, which help judges discern the best meaning of statutory text in context, substantive canons provide tiebreakers when the text is unclear or require special clarity in order for the text to perform certain functions. Among the substantive canons, the so-called “federalism canons” have been singled out for special scrutiny. The federalism canons are a family of canons that require courts to avoid interpreting an act of Congress to divest states of certain sovereign rights or powers—including …

Workers’ Compensation Codes In American Indian* Tribal Nations, Autumn N. Siegel
American Indian Law Journal
This Article examines various Tribal Nations’ experiences in developing their own workers’ compensation systems using a comparative law and legal development approach, including direct interviews with a diverse range of tribal members. Tribal Nations’ self-created workers’ compensation codes predominantly rely on local models and expertise to establish and operate their systems. However, Tribal Nations also infuse their own cultural values into their codes, incorporating tribal perspectives and priorities such as valuing traditional medicine and peace-making alternative dispute resolution, providing more generously to volunteers, and incorporating return-to-work programs into their workers’ compensation systems. Some Tribal Nations also find it necessary to …

This paper presents the first comprehensive empirical evaluation of Large Language Models’ (‘LLMs’) performance in Indian legal education. We compare six Artificial Intelligence (‘AI’) chatbots with law students at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, across four subjects: Contract Law, Corporate Law, Criminal Procedure, and Jurisprudence. Our findings show that LLMs achieve performance comparable to human students (B+ grade), with newer commercial models consistently outperforming older and open-source alternatives. We also find that while LLMs excel in theoretical subjects and structured legal analysis, they show limitations in handling jurisdiction-specific knowledge and complex scenario-based reasoning. These findings have important …
The Corpus Juris Of (Alaska Native) Inherent Tribal Sovereignty, Nazune Menka
The Corpus Juris Of (Alaska Native) Inherent Tribal Sovereignty, Nazune Menka
Alaska Law Review
The inherent Tribal sovereignty of Native nations predates the formation of the United States and is reflected in the constitutional vision of tripartite sovereignty. Yet their sovereignty is oft diminished explicitly by federal law or implicitly by federal courts. This implicit divestiture is often the result of the federal judiciary’s inconsistent interpretations of Indigenous Peoples law. This Article argues that a more principled and coherent approach for federal judges would be to consistently make use of the corpus juris, or whole body of law, including the in pari materia or affiliated statutes canon. The Article posits that the corpus juris …

Ethics Of Artificial Intelligence For Lawyers: Shall We Play A Game? The Rise Of Artificial Intelligence And The First Cases, Cliff Mckinney
Arkansas Law Notes
In the 1983 movie WarGames, a young computer hacker accidentally accesses a United States military supercomputer programmed to run nuclear war simulations. Four decades after WarGames, lawyers are now facing similar challenges of learning to use and communicate with artificial intelligence––hopefully without destroying the world. Artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, are quickly being incorporated into legal practice. These systems can draft documents, perform analysis, and support other legal tasks. While lawyers adjust to these new technologies, courts and regulatory authorities are actively developing appropriate frameworks to guide and supervise the use of these tools within the …
Fluid Agency In Ai Systems: A Case For Functional Equivalence In Copyright, Patent, And Tort, Anirban Mukherjee, Hannah H. Chang
Fluid Agency In Ai Systems: A Case For Functional Equivalence In Copyright, Patent, And Tort, Anirban Mukherjee, Hannah H. Chang
Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts
Modern artificial intelligence (AI) systems lack human-like consciousness or culpability, yet they exhibit fluid agency: behavior that is (i) stochastic (probabilistic and path-dependent), (ii) dynamic (co-evolving with user interaction), and (iii) adaptive (able to reorient across contexts). Fluid agency generates valuable outputs but collapses attribution, irreducibly entangling human and machine inputs. This fundamental unmappability fractures doctrines that assume traceable provenance—authorship, inventorship, and liability—yielding ownership gaps and moral “crumple zones.”
This Article argues that only functional equivalence stabilizes doctrine. Where provenance is indeterminate, legal frameworks must treat human and AI contributions as equivalent for allocating rights and responsibility—not as a claim …

Amazigh Identity: From Discrimination To Reconciliation—A Struggle For Recognition, Khalid Ouassou
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
This paper analyzes the conditions that fostered the emergence of a renewed identity perspective grounded in Amazigh linguistic and cultural rights. It traces the trajectory from denial to recognition after decades of advocacy, across institutional, political, public‑policy, and legal arenas. The article also argues that further guarantees and implementation measures remain necessary to secure the effective enjoyment of Morocco’s linguistic and cultural pluralism and to consolidate a durable process of reconciliation and recognition.
