The Teaching Of International Law At The Université De Montréal: The 1971 To 1985 Period, Daniel Turp
Dalhousie Law Journal
The teaching of International Law at the Universit6 de Montr6al has continued to be of primary importance during the 14 academic years comprised between the years 1971 to 1985. This importance is evidenced by staff members devoting themselves, on a full-time basis, to international law and by the significant number of guest professors, sessional lecturers and teaching assistants that have been involved in the teaching of international law.

Michigan Law Review
In 1985, I published in the Michigan Law Review a review of a recent book by Professor Robert S. Summers on the legal philosophy of Lon Fuller. Professor Summers has published in the Cornell Law Review an ironically titled criticism of my review and of another review. In a number of respects, Professor Summers' Assessment has served to increase my understanding of his book, and I trust that other readers will be similarly benefited. Although Professor Summers' response to my review of his book takes issue with what I said on a number of points, I strongly suspect that few …

Faculty Scholarship
Scholarship in philosophy proceeds at a slower pace than in the law. As Tom Lehrer, the poet laureate of a recent generation, might have said, the law biz travels on a faster track. Or so it seems to a philosopher who has recently been treading the tracks of constitutional lawyers.
And so it is with apprehension that I take as my text a book that was published as long ago as 1980. As the title of this lecture might suggest to someone with so long a memory, the book is John Hart Ely's Democracy and Distrust.' That work provoked an …

Vanderbilt Law Review
On January 2, 1986, Judge Richard Posner of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit announced to an astonished legal profession, not to mention the unsuspecting attorneys-of-record, that, in the future, the Seventh Circuit would decide whether to grant or deny a preliminary injunction by applying the following simple formula:
P x Hp > (1-P) x Hd
With one fell swoop of his algebraic-judicial pen, Judge Posner not only stirred the deepest math anxieties of the practicing bar, but revolutionized preliminary injunction law. Despite Judge Posner's protestations that his simple formula was not "offered as a new legal …

Abortion, Protest, And Constitutional Protection—Bering V. Share, 106 Wn. 2d 212, 721 P.2d 918 (1986), Carrie Miller
Washington Law Review
In Bering v. Share, the Washington Supreme Court upheld a broad injunction against the activities of Share, an anti-abortion activist group. The court found that a restriction of Share's free speech rights was necessary to protect children from the harmful effects of Share's language, and to protect the constitutional right to abortion. Consequently, the court restricted Share's use of the words "murder" and "kill," and limited Share's picketing to the side of the medical building. This Note assesses the Bering court's federal constitutional foundation for its restrictions of protected speech, and suggests an alternative basis and reduced scope for the …
