Michigan Law Review
Communications between the faculty of the University of Michigan Law School and alumni have improved rather dramatically in recent years. The appearance of Law Quadrangle Notes in 1957 was followed in 1960-1961 by the organization of the Law School Fund and in 1962 by the first meeting of the Committee of Visitors. As a result of these and other activities, the faculty and the alumni are better acquainted. But, as is so often true, a little information seems only to generate the need for more.
In order to test the utility of comprehensive information about graduates, former Dean A. F. …

Report On Administrative Law To The Tennessee Law Revision Commission, Daniel J. Gifford
Report On Administrative Law To The Tennessee Law Revision Commission, Daniel J. Gifford
Vanderbilt Law Review
The following discussion of certain aspects of administrative law is a revised version of a report prepared during the 1963-64 academic year in response to a request by the Tennessee Law Revision Commission for an evaluation of issues to be considered in adopting an administrative procedure act for the State of Tennessee. Because one of the Model State Administrative Procedure Acts would probably be used as the basis for a Tennessee Act, the discussion is based upon a comparative analysis of the workings of the original Model Act, the Revised Model Act, and the federal Administrative Procedure Act.

Competition In Legal Services Under The War On Poverty, Eric Wright
Competition In Legal Services Under The War On Poverty, Eric Wright
Faculty Publications
The creation of the legal services programs of the war on poverty has focused attention on the deficiencies in the legal treatment of the poor. Despite general agreement that the poor need legal services, however, there has been a continuous debate over the control of the legal programs and the proper role of the poor in administering them. Behind the dispute over control is a difference of opinion about the goals of the legal services programs. Because these programs were established to help fulfill the policy of the Economic Opportunity Act of I964 "to eliminate the paradox of poverty in …

"In the streets, the only law is that at the end of the policeman's nightstick." The degree of truth in this statement has long been a subject of concern among civil libertarians. Nevertheless, police agencies were for many years left to their own devices in meeting the essential problem of keeping order on the streets; only a small portion of their actions were subject to judicial review.

Unauthorized Practice Of Law-Union Program Of Hiring Attorneys Is Unauthorized Practice Of Law--Illinois State Bar Ass'n V. United Mine Workers Of America, Michigan Law Review
Michigan Law Review
District 12 of the United Mine Workers (UMW) employed an attorney on a salary basis to prosecute members' claims under the Workmen's Compensation Act. Members were free to employ other counsel, but if they sought help from the union lawyer, the union agreed not to interfere with the attorney-client relationship. The attorney prepared his case from filed reports of the accidents, and, generally, his first contact with the union member was when they appeared before the Commission. Since the attorney was compensated by the union, the entire amount received in award or settlement went to the member. The Illinois Bar …
