A Title Change For Federal Hearing Examiners? "A Rose By Any Other Name…”, Roger C. Cramton

Cornell Law Faculty Publications

Hearing examiners are a vital element in the federal administrative process. The quality of administrative justice, as perceived by the citizens who are affected by Government, is greatly influenced by their actions. Federal hearing examiners enjoy great respect in the agencies and from the bar due to their general high quality and excellent performance over the years. During the next quarter-century under the Administrative Procedure Act we can expect even larger accomplishments to flow from the men who hold this high office.

David Meets Goliath In The Legislative Arena: A Losing Battle For An Equal Charitable Voice, Edward W. Wachtel

San Diego Law Review

It is discriminatory not to allow tax exempt organizations to advocate directly before Congress on an equal basis with private business. Moreover, these organizations can be a valuable source of information. They can broaden legislators' understanding of proposed legislation, and they can suggest valuable legislative alternatives.

Representation Of The Public Interest In Michigan Utility Rate Proceedings, Michigan Law Review Jun 1972

Representation Of The Public Interest In Michigan Utility Rate Proceedings, Michigan Law Review

Michigan Law Review

Although the Free Press study centered on political and economic issues, the operation of the Michigan Public Service Commission also raises significant issues regarding the role of public intervenors, agency compliance with statutory requirements, statutory construction, and legislative response to regulatory deficiencies. This Comment will consider the representation of the public interest in Michigan utility proceedings in the context of rate cases involving the state's major utilities. While such an analysis does not reach the breadth of activities performed by the Commission, it is suggestive of the extent to which the Commission is responsive to the public interest generally. Following …

Special Project - Nashville Model Cities: A Case Study, Richard W. Creswell, Alan Gates, Paul M. Kurtz, Paul R. Regendorf, Samuel W. Bartholomew, Jr., Richard K. Greenstein

Vanderbilt Law Review

The future of the Model Cities program in Nashville is difficult to predict. As of this writing, the program is approaching the end of the first of five action years. The suit filed by the CCC in April 1971, is,more than a year later, still pending. It is, of course, possible that the program may eventually prove successful, but such a result is unlikely. Even if the CCC is replaced as the official citizen participation structure for the program, the ideological constituency from which the group derives its strength will remain. Furthermore, as the CDA continues to build an ad …

A Study Of The Legal Aid Family Law Center And Its Clients, By Cynthia Ann Thomas [And] Susan Marie Vail, Cynthia Ann Thomas, Susan Marie Vail

Dissertations and Theses

The family is the basic unit in our society. When there is a breakdown in this unit, specifically in the marital relationship, the effect upon the husband, wife, and children can be devastating in terms of poverty, abuse, and cost to society. The frequent inability of the poor to obtain counseling and legal assistance in resolving family relationships perpetuates the social and psychological results of a poor marriage. This study is concerned with poor persons and their ability to receive both legal and counseling services for their family problems 0 Other concerns are with the questions of alternatives to divorce …
