Note And Comment, Horace Lafayette Wilgus, Victor H. Lane, William C. O'Keefe, Evans Holbrook

Michigan Law Review

Baseball and the Judiciary - The acceptance by Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis of the position of supreme arbiter of professional baseball, as recently announced, raises questions of good taste if not of propriety. It has been generally assumed that Judges of the District Court of the United States have their hands amply full if they do the work incumbent upon them in a way befitting a judge of the United States. It may well be true that the salary provided by the Government is grossly inadequate, but we dare say that no one has considered that the remedy for such …

Administrative Legislation, John A. Fairlie Jan 1920

Administrative Legislation, John A. Fairlie

Michigan Law Review

Few people are aware of the great extent to which public administration in the United States national government is controlled by means of administrative regulations or orders, in the nature of subordinate legislation. Most writers on American government have emphasized the greater detail of statutory legislation in this country as compared with the statutes of continental countries in Europe, or even with Acts of Parliament in Great Britain, and have under-estimated, and indeed have usually ignored entirely, the enormous mass of administrative legislation supplementing Acts of Congress, and issued by the President and the various executive departments, bureaus, commissions. and …

Michigan Law Review

Following the decision of the United States Supreme Court that the Wilson Act did not affect interstate shipments of liquor until final delivery by the carrier, Rhodes v. Iowa, 170 U. S. 412, (898), Congress passed the Webb-Kenyon Act, 37 Stat. at L. 699 (1913). Meantime, in 1913, 35 Stat. at L. 1136, Sec. 239, it was enacted that it should be a penal offense for any carier or other agent, in connection with the interstate carriage of intoxicating liquors, to collect the purchase price from the consignee, or in any manner act as agent of buyer or seller, except …

The Register Vol. 2, No. 4, 11/1917, Suffolk University Law School Nov 1917

The Register Vol. 2, No. 4, 11/1917, Suffolk University Law School

Limited-run Student Newspapers

The Suffolk Law School Register, the first student publication, was published between 1915 and 1921. It includes images of early law school people and places and also includes class notes and anecdotes about Suffolk’s students and alumni; a history of the school, written by founder Gleason Archer; and articles about law. The Register functions much like a yearbook does today, capturing the who, what, where and when of the school, both inside and outside the classroom. Archer’s serialized history provides a first person narrative of his founding of the school and its early growth. The articles about the practice and …

Attorneys - Disobedience of Order of Suspension - What Acts Constitute - Defendants had been suspended from practice "in all the courts of this state" for one year. During suspension they had continued to maintain a law office with the usual signs on the doors and windows, used envelopes and stationery with their names printed thereon as Attorneys at Law, and permitted their names to be inserted as attorneys at law in telephone and city directories. Defendant M had caused the preparation of a complaint, affidavit, and bond in attachment under his direction and had them filed in a suit …

Procedural Reform, Robert Mcmurdy

Michigan Law Review

In legal fetters, bound upon us largely by our own consent, the profession struggles, afraid to free itself, partly because of the word reform with its accepted implications.
