The Much-Maligned Press: A Modern Defense Of Journalism, Dorothy K.M. Axt Jun 1931

The Much-Maligned Press: A Modern Defense Of Journalism, Dorothy K.M. Axt

Bachelors’ Theses

One frequently hears disparagement and depreciation of the work of the mighty power called the Press. It seems a strangely human trait to notice flaws rather than good points. When two gossips get together the faults of their mutual acquaintances are thoroughly discussed, rather than the excellent characteristics they possess. Just so: when any given group discusses journalism, it seems the faults are overplayed in the discussion. An internationally famous sociologist sneers at the work of journalism and all its accomplishments . Another educator of some note looks down on the Press with. a supercilious expression and a shrug of …

Guaranteeing Advertising In Newspapers And Magazines, Emmett F. Brachmann Jun 1931

Guaranteeing Advertising In Newspapers And Magazines, Emmett F. Brachmann

Bachelors’ Theses

These facts have been placed before advertisers; advertising agencies, publishers and to some consumers. With these facts the question was put, "What can be done about it?"

As a result of the bringing to light of the existing condition in all sorts of …

Modern Elements In The Graphic Arts, Carroll Arimond May 1931

Modern Elements In The Graphic Arts, Carroll Arimond

Bachelors’ Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to define and illustrate what is meant by the word "modernism" as applied to art, and how it has evidenced itself in the graphic arts - namely, printing, lithography, and the other applied arts which appeal to the sense of sight. The samples of the graphic arts used in the compilation of this thesis are from the pages of America's leading magazines portraying to the reader the influence of the new school on the advertising industry.
