การปฏิรูปกองทัพปลดปล่อยประชาชนจีนปี 2015: ศึกษาการปรับโครงสร้างกำลังพล นัยยะต่อการบรรลุความฝันของจีน, จิรายุทธ ศรีภา

Climate change is a threat multiplier by its driving forces of environmental stress and scarcity. In the developing world, countries are hit hardest and most frequently by the effects of climate change, such as severe floods, droughts, and desertification. In this thesis, I argue that existing models for the umbrella-term of climate-security underemphasize dimensions of human security through exclusion of HR violations linked to climate such as subjection to food/water stress, compromised health, displacement, and violent conflict. Rape can be used to annihilate, control, and humiliate populations. Mass rape can have genocidal intent. Yet, thus far, the legal definition of genocide has failed to codify rape. These severe limitations in the definition of genocide create legal impunity and impede the rehabilitation of rape survivors. By nature, their opaqueness and deliberate ambiguity in what they bring to the table disincentivizes scrutiny or critique from other government entities and the general public. This paper argues that UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security exemplifies how the international security system is constructed in a way that not only preserves militarism and hegemonic masculinity, but further perpetuates gendered power disparities and exacerbates human insecurity. This dissertation examines the causes and conditions motivating states to discontinue supporting an ongoing military coalition operation and prematurely abandon their partners. In exploring coalition defection through a three-article dissertation, I advance three separate theoretical arguments focusing on three levels of analysis.

The first article contributes to the literature by investigating the effects of political regime types on coalition abandonment during interstate wars. I argue that anocracies are dependable wartime partners and will not abandon coalition warfare earlier than autocracies and democracies. As social and political discourse in most countries becomes more polarized, anti-Americanism has risen not only in the Middle East and Latin America but also among the U.S. allies in Europe. ปัจจุบันกิจการอวกาศมีการพัฒนาไปอย่างรวดเร็ว และยังเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในพลังอำนาจสำคัญที่สามารถสร้างผลประโยชน์ให้กับประเทศชาติได้หลากหลายมิติ โดยเฉพาะในงานด้านความมั่นคงที่ใช้อวกาศเป็นหนึ่งในสนามรบสมัยใหม่เพื่อแสวงหาประโยชน์ กองทัพบกเป็นอีกหนึ่งองค์กรที่ได้นำเทคโนโลยีอวกาศมาใช้ในงานด้านความมั่นคงตามแนวชายแดนไทย เพื่อให้รับกับภัยคุกคามรูปแบบใหม่ที่เกิดขึ้นในโลกปัจจุบัน งานวิจัยฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษาแนวทางการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีอวกาศของกองทัพบกเพื่อใช้ในงานด้านความมั่นคงโดยเฉพาะในงานข่าวกรอง ลาดตระเวน และการเฝ้าตรวจบริเวณชายแดน โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผ่านการสัมภาษณ์บุคลากรในกองทัพบกที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญและเกี่ยวข้องกับเทคโนโลยีอวกาศ โดยผลการศึกษาแสดงให้เห็นว่าเทคโนโลยีอวกาศถูกนำเข้ามาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในยุทธศาสตร์ด้านความมั่นคง เพื่อการปกป้องตนเองจากภัยคุกคาม และเป็นการแสดงให้เห็นว่ากองทัพบกได้พัฒนารูปแบบการรบให้มีศักยภาพในการรับมือกับภัยคุกคามรูปแบบใหม่ที่ครอบคลุมทุกมิติ

This essay places the Vietnam War upon the larger canvas of Southeast and East Asian history by studying the long shadow that Britain’s Empire cast over U.S. entanglements across the region. It shows how British officials in Malaya and Singapore directly contributed to the expansion of US involvement in post-1945 Southeast Asia, as well as the overall pro-US trajectory of the region well before the Americanization of the Vietnam conflict.

The conflicts in and around Chechnya are intractable, with a perceived impossibility to find a negotiated solution. This paper focuses on the hostage crises of Budennovsk (1995) and Beslan (2004) which are episodes from the two Chechnya Wars and had an important impact on their further course. Based on the memories of key actors representing specific sides of the conflict, the paper identifies and contextualizes diverging approaches to negotiations and conflict settlement. Conceptual support for this analysis of open-source materials is provided by the theoretical literature on “ripeness” and “readiness” as conditions for the initiation and successful conduction of negotiations. …

In examining the rhetoric of Chinese policy makers through a qualitative analysis of relevant policy documents and Chinese statements, the article begins by evaluating the relationship between military modernization and the advancement of China’s innovation and civil- ‍military integration strategies in the Xi Jinping era. This paper examines the contemporary drivers of deforestation in the Brazilian Legal Amazon and how multilateral solutions can be employed to bring forest loss to zero. Insights from the scholarly literature and five expert interviews allow a critical assessment of how the rise of unilateralism presents a novel threat to the Brazilian Legal Amazon and, by proxy, those relying on the region’s raw resources and ecosystem services.
