The Holocaust: A Catalyst For Theological Evolution As Exemplified By The Writing Of Dr. John T. Pawlikowski, O.S.M., David Joseph Levy

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Beginning with James Parkes and Jules Isaac, and continuing even until this day, extensive effort has been focused on the issue of Christian-Jewish relations. The Holocaust is a topic central to those reflections. This is due to the general acceptance of the thesis that, in some fashion, Christianity can be described as having contributed to the Holocaust. To appreciate that thesis one need only consider Hitler's own remarks, made at the 1933 Concordat Conference, "I am only continuing the work of the Catholic Church: to isolate the Jews and fight their influence." Dancin' To Freedom: A Historical Analysis Of The Rise Of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Deborah Obalil '95

Honors Projects, History

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater was founded in New York City in 1958. It was the creative product of Alvin Ailey, a young African-American dancer whose early childhood years were spent picking cotton, and it consisted of six additional African American dancers. While it was not the first company of its kind, it would grow to become one of America's leading modern dance companies. Considering the times in which it began, and the fact that many young dance companies never make it beyond local performance seasons, it is amazing that the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater grew beyond its …

The Eberhard Privy: Archaeological And Historical Insights Into Santa Clara History, Samantha Harris, Jennifer Geddes, Kate Hahn, Diane Chonette, Russell Skowronek

Research Manuscript Series

Broad open spaces, beautiful roses, and ancient trees today characterize the Santa Clara University campus and the surrounding tree shaded neighborhood. Along those quiet streets of the Old Quad many students and area residents go for walks in the City's relatively clean air. Beyond the sound of jets taking off from the nearby airport or the occasional wail of a siren Santa Clara is a tranquil place, seemingly unchanged for decades. Yet, this is a deceiving view as it is a community that has radically changed since the end of World War II. Over the past half century, Santa Clara …

North Carolina Public Welfare Institutes For Negroes 1926-1946, Yolanda N. Burwell Mar 1994

North Carolina Public Welfare Institutes For Negroes 1926-1946, Yolanda N. Burwell

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

Black welfare workers in the South had limited opportunities for professional social work education and development. In 1926, annual public welfare institutes for Blacks were sponsored by the North Carolina State Board of Charities and Public Welfare through its Division of Work Among Negroes. They filled a critical educational and professional void. For twenty years, these annual institutes bolstered the knowledge and skills of a growing corp of Black welfare workers and the maturation of the profession in North Carolina.
