A History Of The Richmond, Virginia, Fire Department, Donald Lee Morecock Aug 1958

A History Of The Richmond, Virginia, Fire Department, Donald Lee Morecock

Master's Theses

Firefighting has become a potentially dangerous profession one and one which has become more and more scientific as the years have passed. In early, days, when more of the human element was involved in those organizations devoted to fire protection, the fire house was a gathering place for town politicians, retired workers, and for those who, while not firemen themselves, were continually fascinated by the deeds of daring performed by those who manned the hose. In this paper, the author has attempted to give a picture of fire fighting in Richmond from the very earliest tiems up to the Fire …

Section XI: The Revolutionary Wars, 1776-1815

"A torch lighted in the forests of America set all Europe in conflagration." Thus Voltaire had written concerning the impact of the American Revolution on the Old World. French intellectuals had long admired Newtonian science and Lockean political theory. The successful revolutions in England in 1688 and in America a century later emphasized the anachronistic nature of the status quo in eighteenth century France. It is perhaps not entirely coincidental that in the year when Americans completed their revolution the French began a movement which was to involve practically the entire European continent, drastically reshape its social and political institutions, …

Joseph Smith, Sr., First Patriarch To The Church, Earnest Morgan Skinner

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is a biography of Joseph Smith Sr., first patriarch to the Church and father of the illustrious Prophet Joseph Smith Jr. The overall purpose of this treatise is of a four-fold nature. First, it proposes to reveal the kind of personality and character he possessed. Second, it intends to present a near complete and accurate account of his deeds and experiences. Third, it hopes to relate him to the historical period in which he lived. And fourth, by fulfilling the three purposes named, it will attempt to evaluate the assertions that have been frequently made that the Prophet …

The Rise Of Hitler As Interpreted By Selected American Newspapers, 1930-1936, Edward Walton Trice Jan 1955

The Rise Of Hitler As Interpreted By Selected American Newspapers, 1930-1936, Edward Walton Trice

Master's Theses

The following thesis offers an impression of American opinion toward specific events relating to the rise of Nazi Germany through an analysis of selected newspaper editorials and articles. While the direct influence of public opinion upon foreign policy can rarely be documented, there seems to be a general agreement that an "intimate" relationship does exist between the two. This interdependence ultimately generates a form of symbiosis, which permits an examination of one of these areas to lend insight into the other.

Fundamentally, the relationship between our political leaders, the press, and the general public has always been one of interaction. …
