The University Of Richmond And Her War Effort, 1939-1945, Robert Richard Shotzberger

Master's Theses

On December 7, 1941, the Japanese made their sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, and the United States was at war. This marked the second time within a quarter of a century, and the fifth time in the history of the University, that war clouds hovered over the United States. During World War I, the University vacated its new campus (the present site) in favor of the United States War Department. The campus and all of the buildings were used for hospital purposes. Thousands of soldiers, wounded on the Western Front, were hospitalized in the buildings on the new campus. These …

A History Of The Cattle Pools In Barber County, Kansas, Charles C. Forsyth

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

Much has been written about the so called "cow towns" of Kansas and the part they played in the development of the state, but a point that has been overlooked for the most part is the association of cattlemen into groups …

A Survey Of A New Emphasis In American Foreign Policy: The Four Point Program, Mary Ella Bemis Jan 1950

A Survey Of A New Emphasis In American Foreign Policy: The Four Point Program, Mary Ella Bemis

Student Scholarship

This thesis, titled "A Survey of a New Emphasis in American Foreign Policy: The Point Four Program," provides a comprehensive analysis of the technical assistance initiative proposed by President Harry S. Truman in his 1949 inaugural address. The author, Mary Ella Bemis, argues that the program represents a significant shift in foreign policy, moving beyond European economic recovery to a "bold new program" focused on the balanced development of underdeveloped areas where the majority of the population lives in poverty, disease, and ignorance.

The study begins by reviewing the historical context and operational precedents established by international agencies, such as …

A Study Of Nutrition As A Mass Educational Movement During World War Ii : With Particular Reference To The Work Done In San Joaquin County, Maxine V. Garrigan

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

During the decade, 1930-1940, most of the government efforts were directed to the task of seeing that no one should starve. Through welfare programs it was possible to insure low income groups against starvation; "but through the depression years and the poet-depression months, it was recognized that just the guarantee against starvation was not enough. Our nutritional goal should be commensurate with natural resources of our country and with our ability to produce, have the land, the equipment and the man power necessary to furnish good food for our whole nation. Knowing this and recognizing from surveys that a large …
