Results Of Testing Of Site 41gm23 Grimes County, Texas, John W. Clark Jr.
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Archaeological site 41GM23 was tested by the cultural resources staff of the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) during the week of June 6,1988. The test revealed that, although the site has been disturbed by clearing and bulldozing, intact cultural deposits remained. The deposits were about 60 cm thick and contained a hearth and other evidence of prehistoric occupation. The cultural material recovered suggests that the site was occupied during the Early Ceramic and Late Archaic periods. The site is eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, and for listing as a State Archaeological …

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Preliminary historical and archaeological investigation of the Robert Henry Seale farm residences (41RT362) utilizing a metal detector and limited shovel testing indicate that a recent owner of the property removed both residential structures, destroying the site and extensively damaging any buried deposits. It is the estimation of the cultural resources staff of the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation that the physical remains of the occupation of the property have been disrupted to such an extent that they now have no value in answering cultural-historical questions.

Archaeological Testing At The Camp Pearl Wheat Site 41kr243, Kerr County, Texas, Wayne C. Young
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Archaeological Testing of 41KR243, the Camp Pearl Wheat Site, was performed between June 15 and June 20, 1988 by the Archaeology Section of the State Department of Highway and Public Transportation (SDHPT). The hand excavation of three 2 meter squares uncovered a hearth and a Martindale dart point from depths of 40 to 50 cm below the present surface. An additional hearth exposed in the road cut of FM 783 was uncovered and documented. The site contains a San Geronimo Phase (Weir 1976) component at 40 to 50 cm depth within the proposed right-of-way. The uppermost 30 cm of the …

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Archaeological site 41KA87 was tested by the cultural resources staff of the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) in September, 1987. Few prehistoric tools were found and well-defined features were lacking. Cultural deposits were about 50 cm thick and contained lithic debris, mussel shell, and other evidence of prehistoric occupation. The cultural material recovered suggests that site 41KA87 was occupied during the Late Archaic and Late Prehistoric periods. The site is not considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, and it is not recommended for listing as a State Archeological Landmark.

Archaeological Testing Of Site 41ci30 Childress County, Texas, Wayne C. Young
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
The State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) conducted archaeological tests on Site 41CI30 in Childress County in May 1988. The site is located about 1.5 miles south of Childress at the intersection of Scatterbranch Creek and a county road and covers about one acre in the northeast quadrant of the intersection. The majority of it is located on private property outside the jurisdiction of the SDHPT. Testing indicated that the site is a low density prehistoric campsite. Lithic debris was largely limited to the upper 20-30 cm of orange, sandy soils. A total of four 1 meter squares …

Archeological Testing In The De Dietrich (Usa), Inc. Project Site Nueces County Texas, James E. Warren
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Subsurface testing of two archeological sites (41NU 256, 41NU257) near the upper end of Oso Creek in Nueces County, Texas failed to encounter any significant cultural resources which will be affected by a proposed drainage project. If there are any intact portions of the sites remaining, they are outside of the proposed construction right-of- way.
Research Design And Data Recovery Plan For Archaeological Site 41gm23
Research Design And Data Recovery Plan For Archaeological Site 41gm23
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Site 41GM23 was originally located by William M. Sorrow during the Millican Reservoir survey in 1973. Its presence was indicated by the occurrence of flakes and burned rocks. The site was plotted as covering a hill top and extending downslope towards Rocky Creek (Fig. 1). The archaeological site was re-examined in May 1988 during a routine archaeological survey by the-State Department of Highways and Public Transportation for a proposed bridge re-placement on County Road 247 in Grimes County. The site was reevaluated and found to contain ceramics and burned rock hearths exposed by recent disturbance. Testing was proposed to determine …

Identifying Danish-American Folklife, Gregory Hansen
Identifying Danish-American Folklife, Gregory Hansen
The Bridge
Danish-American ethnicity has traditionally been studied by examining the literature, religion, social and educational institutions, and business enterprises of Danes in America. In general researchers have looked to Fine Arts and Culture to understand the Danish ethnic identity. But examining only Culture and Art yields an incomplete understanding of culture and art. Danish ethnic culture in America consists primarily of the non-elitist traditions and arts of individuals' everyday lives rather than the contributions of the elite, and the discipline of folklore can provide a more complete concept of Danish heritage. Folklife studies involve the stages of identifying, documenting, interpreting, and …

The Uses Of Maya Structures: A Study Of Architecture And Artifact Distribution At Sepulturas, Copan, Honduras, Julia A. Hendon
The Uses Of Maya Structures: A Study Of Architecture And Artifact Distribution At Sepulturas, Copan, Honduras, Julia A. Hendon
Anthropology Faculty Publications
This dissertation presents a compositional analysis of the architecture and a distributional analysis of the associated artifacts resulting from excavation of some ninety buildings dating from the Late to Terminal Classic Period at the Maya site of Copan, Honduras. The study of all artifacts recovered from primary contexts, both in situ and redeposited, focuses first on a determination of their function, second on an analysis of their distribution within the site, and third on their associations with one another in order to identify the kinds of activities carried out at various locations. A second line of evidence used is the …
