No one left behind! Diversity and inclusion! Level-playing field!

Clichéd or fact?

This is a fact at Singapore Management University (SMU) as student demographics have started to change and classrooms have become more intergenerational, comprising first-generation adult learners, students returning from National Service, increasing enrolment of IB graduates, international students, and those wanting to pursue a higher degree beyond a polytechnic diploma. This diverse learner profile warrants the need to ensure that no one is left behind. SMU’s Holistic Student Development Framework (HSDF) emphasises inclusivity beyond the classroom to recognise out-of-classroom learning through a variety of learning programmes focusing on …

Implementing Open Educational Resources In Colleges And Universities: A Literature Review, D. Laverne Hill, Taralynn Hartsell, Jamie L. Workman, Amy Smith

Georgia Library Quarterly

The use of Open Educational Resources (OER) is becoming increasingly widespread in higher education institutions as the ease of use, equitable access, and the cost-free availability makes OER a viable option for classroom materials. Incorporating OER into the curriculum can be both beneficial and challenging for faculty. Because librarians are skilled and efficient in finding adequate resources to supplement learning, they prove to be an asset when striving to implement an OER initiative in the institution. While faculty would be the primary group to introduce many of the OER to students, it takes a collaborative effort between faculty and librarians …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

This study investigates the effectiveness of Padlet, a technology-enhanced tool, that supports collaborative and personalized learning, and its success in meeting specific learning outcomes and course objectives. We developed a framework that synthesizes the learning characteristics of technology-enabled collaborative and personalized learning, integrating the strengths of both learning modes. Unlike other studies which typically focus on a single discipline, our framework is evaluated with the use of Padlet across four university courses, spanning three disciplines (Information Systems, Economics and Law). Survey results showed that Padlet enhanced both learning types and achieved the desired outcomes. Linear regression analysis underscored Padlet's effectiveness …

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

Within the last decade, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) has made a call to action, asking educators to engage in effective teaching of mathematics which includes having classrooms rich in mathematical discourse (NCTM, 2014). The participants were video tapped teaching six times and attended four whole group meetings. The whole group meetings were used to discuss the practices, planning, and enactment of the …

Leading The Way: An Exploration Of Leadership Behaviors In Academic Advising, Amanda Bergeron-Bauer

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

Academic advisors in higher education serve as more than a resource for planning classes. These student affairs professionals also assist with success plans, identifying career paths, connecting students with relevant campus resources, and working through academic and personal concerns. Over time, the field of academic advising has transitioned from a prescriptive form of advising that consisted primarily of transactional interactions to a hybrid approach that incorporates developmental advising or helping to develop the whole student. As institutions emphasize the importance of developmental advising on their campuses, it is necessary for academic advisors to expand their skill sets to better meet …

This article sets the scene for EFMD’s view and principles for change in business schools aimed at improving quality and effectiveness.

By conducting talent pipeline pilots for internship preparation activities and related survey and focus group research, the research team found near universal support for pursuing university-industry partnerships. Faculty identified extracurricular activities, experiential learning opportunities, and guidance on further education as their top three priorities when mentoring students in professional development. There was, however, a paradoxical perception among faculty about what universities provide in terms of knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) …
