Maude Truxal Burtner
Maude Zetta Burtner, née Truxal (1882-1962) was a graduate of Otterbein University in 1907. The daughter of Reverend J. P. and Sarah Truxal, she was born in Pennsylvania before coming to Westerville. After graduation she married Elmer E. Burtner in 1910, a minister for the United Brethren Church in Westerville. After his death in 1923, she became an elementary school teacher, and was the principal of the Longfellow School when she retired. She had two children, Edwin and Margaret.
This scrapbook was her creation in 1907 and contains photographs and names of many Otterbein students and includes the playbill and …

This scrapbook features an enormous collection of programs from campus events at Taylor University from 1907-1935. In addition, it contains several articles of interest from various University Publications, but also includes publications from student organizations such as the literary societies. Probably compiled by faculty, staff, or a spouse of one, it focuses primarily on senior performances, commencement, oratorical and vocal contests, and expression, theatre, and music related performances.

The Otterbein Weekly was a thirteen-issue newspaper published in the spring of 1906, “In the Interests of the Students of Otterbein University.” In the first edition it is written:
To write about the lack of college spirit is resorted to by many editors in their dire distress for want of copy.
