Hand Knob Stroke, The Ultimate Mimic Of Peripheral Mononeuropathy: A Case Report, Larry A. Osborne Jr, Stephen Chien

Graduate Medical Education Research Journal

Background. Hand knob strokes present with unilateral motor weakness of the hand, distal arm, or a particular group of fingers with or without paresthesia. This condition can easily be misdiagnosed as a peripheral mononeuropathy without a high level of suspicion and a thorough history and physical exam. We present a case of hand knob stroke that mimicked an ulnar mononeuropathy.

Case. A 100-year-old male with a history of untreated hypertension, Stage 3A Chronic Kidney Disease, and prediabetes presented to the hospital five hours after symptom onset with resolving acute left hand weakness and paresthesia. Symptoms began the night prior with …

The Wanderers: Teaching The Literature Of Migration And Exile, Linda Zionkowski Jun 2026

The Wanderers: Teaching The Literature Of Migration And Exile, Linda Zionkowski

ABO: Interactive Journal for Women in the Arts, 1640–1830

In our current global landscape, exile—or forced, often permanent migration—appears a central rather than tangential experience, being driven by armed conflict, environmental destruction, economic collapse, and political repression. The climate on many university campuses reflects students’ awareness of and concern for the situation of displaced populations, and this awareness has influenced political discourse and political action inside and outside the classroom. My course titled “The Wanderers: Teaching the Literature of Migration and Exile” begins with  Frances Burney’s narration of exilic experiences in her life writings and The Wanderer. Burney’s texts offer a conceptual foundation for exploring instances of physical …

Echoing the 2024 “Report on English Majors’ Career Preparation and Outcomes” prepared by the ADE Ad Hoc Committee on English Majors’ Career Preparation and Outcomes, it argues that providing students with regular opportunities to hear from and interact with program alumni offers tangible benefits in terms of career preparation. By attending Zoom and in-person alumni career talks, students can learn about the diverse range of jobs where language and literature majors can achieve success. Protecting Graduate Students From Burnout With Self-Compassion And Authenticity, Michael S. Leeman, Joshua J. Castleberry, Anna A. Ellenson, Morgan Wallbrown

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

This study investigated whether practicing self-compassion and embracing one's authentic self could protect graduate students from burnout. Researchers also empirically examined the mediating effect of authenticity in the relationship between self-compassion and burnout. A total of 318 master's degree students in a helping profession completed surveys assessing their levels of self-compassion, authenticity, and burnout. Results found that graduate students with higher levels of self-compassion and authenticity tended to have lower levels of burnout. Additionally, authenticity mediated the relationship between self-compassion and burnout. The findings suggest that practicing self-compassion and embracing one's authentic self may lead to lower levels of burnout …
