Projected Economic And Financial Benefits Of The 2017 Summer Universiade Games., Steve S. Chen, Teame Ghirmay, Yi-Hua Lee, Chie-Der Dongfan, Tsung-Chih Chiu

Faculty Research at Morehead State University

In Western society, sport economic impact studies are often utilized to showcase the financial benefits for hosting mega sport event or to justify the spending for entering bids or covering infrastructure construction costs. This study projected economic impact of the 2017 Summer Universiade by examining the Taiwanese (the hosting country) residents’ willingness to attendance and estimated individual spending (consumption) while attending the games. Through a series of convenience sampling surveys from February to April, 2017, 1,021 respondents (53.5% males and 45.3% females) reported their potential personal spending, willingness to attend the events, and preferred ticket price range. Assessing Student Learning In Sport Event Management Through Reflective Practice: Measure Of Success In Co-Curricular Learning In Higher Education, Paulin Tay Straughan, Wan Ying (Zheng Wanying) Tay, Eng Kee Eric Song, Loon Beng Angela Koh

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

Co-curricular activities are an integral part of students’ holistic education. Yet, assessing experiential learning outcomes in the co-curricular space can sometimes prove to be challenging, given that not all of such learning experiences are designed or structured in a manner similar to academic courses or programmes. Rather, indirect measures of learning such as asking students to reflect on what they have learnt and experienced is often used for rendering visible learning outcomes. Using reflective practice, the SMU Gravical 2018, an international sporting event, provided the learning platform for the 19 committee members of the Singapore Management University (SMU) Climb team. …

If The Slipper Fits: The Relationship Between A Cinderella Appearance In The Ncaa Division I Men’S Basketball Tournament And Institutional Financial And Admissions Factors, Kelly A. Childs

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

This study examined the relationship between a non-Power Five Cinderella team in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament and institutional financial and admissions factors. The purpose of this study was to examine what, if anything, changes for a non-Power Five school who makes the March Madness tournament as compared to those similar schools who do not. This was a unique study because it looks at the variables of percent admitted, applications, enrollment, SAT/ACT, and donations together, different from the current body of research which has looked at many of these institutional factors separately. Additionally, many of these studies are …

Transformational Leadership In Club Sports: An Instrument For Evaluation And Assessment, Nathan Shelby Hutchens

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Campus Recreation and its programs can be used as a way to combat the national trends of decreasing enrollment and retention (Weaver, Forte, & McFadden, 2017; Kampf & Teske, 2013). In fact, 62% of students indicate that Campus Recreation programs are a factor when choosing an institution and 67% indicate that recreation programs were a factor when deciding to stay at a particular institution (Forrester, 2014). As a program within Campus Recreation, Club Sports specifically is perceived to have the greatest health and wellbeing benefits out of all Campus Recreation programming (Lower, Turner, & Petersen, 2013).
