Etsu Today - Fall/Winter 2019-20, University Marketing And Communication, East Tennessee State University

ETSU Today [magazine]

Many of our academic programs reached milestone anniversaries in 2019. During Homecoming, we celebrated the golden anniversary of two of our health sciences programs, as 2019 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our Dental Hygiene program. It was also 50 years ago that our undergraduate program in Environmental Health was accredited. This program was the first in the nation to earn full accreditation from the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council. This fall, we also recognized the 50th anniversary of the Zeta Omega chapter of Sigma Chi. Our campus also had the opportunity to be part …

The Blessed Bread Of Life: A Biblical Theology Perspective And Research Of John 6:30-35,44-58, Adina Shabe

Biblical Studies Student Projects

John 6 is a passage that can seem confusing, graphic even. However, through concepts of Biblical theology, exegesis and application, one can come to a greater understanding of the teaching of Jesus in this passage. Throughout John 6:30-35,44-58 Jesus defines Himself as the bread and blood in which we are to eat and drink of and the great importance that lies within eating and drinking of Him.

Integrating Articles Into Teaching English To Young Learners Ii Course In Elt Department, Ayşegül Takkaç Tulgar

The Qualitative Report

While relevant literature presents us different studies examining teaching English to young learners from an application and practice perspective, its theoretical side, i.e., how to instruct pre-service teachers in foreign language departments to teach the language to young learner profiles is still an area needing investigation. Conducted in English Language Teaching department at a state university in Turkey, this case study was purposed to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating articles into TEYL II course. The participants were 36 students taking TEYL II course in the third grade. The data of this case study were collected through open-ended questions and classroom …

The Implementation Of Peak Relational Training System In A Special Education Classroom, Kelsey Leachko Aug 2020

The Implementation Of Peak Relational Training System In A Special Education Classroom, Kelsey Leachko

Masters Theses/Capstone Projects

This study was an instructional inquiry project using a single participant research design and mixed methods data collection. The study investigated the implementation of PEAK (Promoting the Emergence of Advanced Knowledge) Relational Training System: Direct Training Module (Dixon, 2014), specifically when focused on the behavior of a second-grade student with ASD in a specialized learning center. By conducting a pre-assessment with a single subject, deficits in foundational skills were identified and three focus behaviors were chosen for the intervention. PEAK was then implemented using a multiple baseline design to teach and reinforce the behaviors. The progress of the intervention was …

ETSU News

JOHNSON CITY (Aug. 4, 2020) – When Dr. Cecilia McIntosh retires from East Tennessee State University one day, she hopes to leave “a whole chapter in the book” on plant biochemistry.

That goal is important to the researcher, but equally important is the legacy she leaves with her students – undergraduate and graduate – a legacy of critical thinking skills, hands-on and high-tech laboratory practices and a drive to keep asking, seeking, discovering and sharing.

Exhibiting a mathematical mind at an early age, McIntosh was encouraged and challenged by her grandfather, who gave her math problems to work in her …

Alcohol Use And Drinking-Related Eating Restriction Behaviors Among College Students, Peter Preonas Aug 2020

Alcohol Use And Drinking-Related Eating Restriction Behaviors Among College Students, Peter Preonas

Psychology Theses & Dissertations

The combination of eating restrictions and alcohol use is a prevalent problem on college campuses. Some students engage in eating restrictions prior to drinking to limit their overall caloric intake or to enhance intoxication effects. To date, limited research suggests that drinking-related eating restriction behaviors are associated with additional and unique health risks relative to high-risk drinking or eating restrictions alone. As such, additional research examining this unique, risky set of behaviors is warranted. Consequently, the present study aimed to address gaps in the literature by further examining the risks associated with drinking-related eating restrictions and testing trait factors related …

ETSU News

JOHNSON CITY (July 28, 2020) – As the health care community began transitioning to telehealth services for many types of appointments during the COVID-19 crisis, Dr. Teresa Boggs was uncertain how well telehealth would work for the Positive Eating Program at East Tennessee State University.

ETSU’s Positive Eating Program is designed for children with behavioral and sensory-based feeding challenges. It is housed at The Language Center at Nave, located in Elizabethton and managed by ETSU’s Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

Prior to COVID-19, parents or guardians brought their children (typically ages 1-7) to the clinic setting, where supervised graduate …
