The Role Of Media In Promoting Sexuality Information Among Higher Education Students In Tanzania: The Case Of Dar Es Salaam University College Of Education (Duce), Margareth Joseph Bilinga Dr
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
For most students in Tanzania and elsewhere, the use of media is an integral part of their daily life, and as such it has been influencing their studies in various ways. This study explores the role of media in promoting knowledge and skills on sexuality to students in higher learning institutions in Tanzania. A mixed method research design informed the study: a cross-sectional survey design informed quantitative data, while the qualitative data was informed by the phenomenological research design. A sample of 300 students was drawn using simple and stratified random sampling, as well as convenient sampling techniques. The quantitative …

Toward A New Community Of Care: Best Practices For Educators And Administrators During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Cody M. Clemens, Tomeka M. Robinson
Journal of Communication Pedagogy
The onset of COVID-19 left people feeling unsettled, confused, and afraid of what tomorrow may hold. As university professors specializing in health communication, we too were left with these same feelings. As health communication scholars, we focus on issues surrounding illness, risk, crisis, care, health inequities, and wellness. COVID-19 is a health crisis, yes, but it has also changed the way we operate not only in higher education but in daily life. We begin this essay with an overview of COVID-19 and its impact on students, educators, and administrators. Then, we suggest four best practices to foster a community of …

School of Medicine Faculty Research
Purpose: The social distancing mandates instituted during COVID-19 pandemic mark the sudden transition in the mode of dental education’s delivery to the virtual instruction. It is vital to assess students’ perceptions towards virtual learning environments, particularly among those gaining education in resource-strained countries. This cross-sectional study aims to assess the perceptions of dental undergraduates towards online education, environment and transferable skills and patient care during COVID-19 in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Materials and Methods: Dental preclinical and clinical undergraduate students from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka were recruited from November 2020 to March 2021 through a 47-item web-based survey …

Mycobacterium Avium Pulmonary Infection Disguised As A Urinary Tract Infection, Megan Rolfzen, Allison Ashford
Graduate Medical Education Research Journal
In the United States, Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) has been found to be the most common isolate in non-tuberculous disease, and pulmonary infection is the most frequent presentation. It is ubiquitous in the environment, particularly in soil and manufactured water supply sources. Worldwide, M. avium infections, both pulmonary and disseminated, are steadily increasing. Due to MAC’s ability to cause non-specific symptoms and its pervasiveness within the environment, it is paramount to incorporate this diagnosis in the differential, especially in those most susceptible. We report a case of a Mycobacterium avium complex pulmonary infection in 72-year-old Caucasian male with history of …

Abstract
Introduction:
Inpatient dermatology consultations can bring a mixed bag of pathologies. Due to the highly specialized nature of dermatology and the lack of dermatologic training in medical school, the dermatologic team is consulted for matters that range from non-urgent to pressing. Pictures are a critical component of dermatology and greatly aid in the diagnosis of cutaneous diseases. In the inpatient setting, pictures can help streamline diagnosis and prevent unnecessary tests or procedures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate for the presence of pictures in patients’ chart after a dermatology consult had been placed through EPIC at the …

Etsu Today - Fall/Winter 2020-21, University Marketing And Communication, East Tennessee State University
ETSU Today [magazine]
A year ago, 2019 was drawing to a close. As always, the final days of the year are a time of reflection – a reflection of the people, the events, and the memories that defined the past months. It is also a season of hope and anticipation for what the upcoming year promises to bring. For East Tennessee State University, the year 2020 would have been the time we celebrated the completion of not one but two long-awaited building projects: the renovation of the D.P. Culp Student Center and the construction of the Martin Center for the Arts. New initiatives …
