Fafsa Completion: Considerations For An Extension-Led Statewide Nudge Campaign, Portia L. Johnson, Kacee Ross, Emily Hines
Journal of Extension
Eight U.S. states have enacted legislation that mandates high school seniors to act on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before graduation. At least 10 other states are considering implementing similar FAFSA requirements. While proponents of the law believe it will affect postsecondary education and the workforce positively, dissenters argue that the policy is an unfunded mandate that taxes students and parents without offering adequate resources. This article synthesizes existing literature related to policy-related nudge campaigns to provide an Extension-led, cost-effective strategy to achieve the FAFSA mandate’s goal and improve citizens’ FAFSA completion behavior.
Strategies To Advance Antiracist Programs: Why They Matter, Scott D. Scheer
Strategies To Advance Antiracist Programs: Why They Matter, Scott D. Scheer
Journal of Extension
The U.S. Extension system has been aware for many years of the racial inequality and disparities present today and throughout U.S. history. Even though there have been concerted efforts in Extension to improve racial equity and inclusion, much work remains. A dual approach is proposed for Extension to focus both internally (program planners) and externally (program participants) to bring about antiracist programs that are inclusive and racially equitable. Research-based strategies are discussed for both domains of program planners (e.g., implicit bias training) and program participants (e.g., reach people of color through culturally relevant curricula).

INTRODUCTION:
While health, wellness, and healthcare are essential to every human being, not much is known about the health and healthcare experiences of transgender students on college campuses. Understanding these healthcare experiences are important because when we recognize them, we can establish a healthy relationship of trust. There is a growing number of transgender students on West Chester University campus, who felt they were not getting the appropriate support and care. As a result, a project was started at student health services to help transgender students effectively access sensitive and welcoming care and support.

Student Engagement Through Programming At Four-Year Institutions, Sydney Hartman
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to quantitatively examine the ways in which student engagement is utilized on the Glassboro campus at Rowan University and how it has impacted the overall development of undergraduate students enrolled in the Fall of 2022 and Spring of 2023. Utilizing Qualtrics, a 14-question survey was distributed to all enrolled students starting in December of 2022 and ending in February of 2023. This survey contained questions that surveyed the population demographically and asked how frequent they attend various programs on-campus. The survey data was then analyzed to better understand students’ perceptions of the current programming …

Exploring Self-Authorship Development Among First-Generation Latinx College Undergraduates Who Participate In A Summer Bridge Program, Alexis Manuel Delgado
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research study was to explore self-authorship theory through the insights and experiences of first-generation Latinx undergraduate students who completed a summer bridge program. This qualitative critical single case study focused on participants' unique experiences during a state-funded summer bridge program at a public 4-year institution in New Jersey. This study found how participants summer experiences offered students the opportunity to begin to question, rethink, and reshape their own beliefs, values, or knowledge. Findings from this study suggest that students' experiences during the summer elicited a form of dissonance that helped them develop confidence, empathy, college culture …

Simulation provides a safe environment for students to practice clinical and communication skills needed in advanced practice nursing. Faculty at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) formally incorporated simulation into the nurse practitioner (NP) program curriculum. The UTC NP simulation program was developed utilizing the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best PracticeTM, Simulation Guidelines and Best Practices for Nurse Practitioner Programs, and the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) Standards of Best Practice (SOBP) (International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning [INACSL], 2021; Lewis, 2017; Lioce et al., 2020a). The 15 simulation scenarios were developed and integrated into the …

Developing A Multi-Platform Application To Facilitate Internal Campus Hiring, Carissa Patton
Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
Undergraduate research has proven to be highly beneficial to students, yet there are many students who do not know how to get involved or who are too timid to approach professors to inquire about potential research opportunities. Our hypothesis is that a cross-platform application has the potential to bridge the gap and help more students get involved in undergraduate research by providing them information about open positions and the faculty or staff members who are mentoring the projects. The key focus of this thesis is to develop an application that provides details about participating faculty or staff including their research …
“Why Can’T I Get Over This?”: The Impact Of Vicarious Trauma On College Student Leader Mental Health, Sarah Hagelberger
“Why Can’T I Get Over This?”: The Impact Of Vicarious Trauma On College Student Leader Mental Health, Sarah Hagelberger
Master of Arts in Higher Education (MAHE) Theses
Many college student leaders get the opportunity to learn the stories of those they serve. Similar to people in other helping roles, a possible impact of this work is experiencing a negative emotional response developed in response to the trauma someone in close proximity is experiencing, or vicarious trauma. This research project attempted to understand the impact of vicarious trauma on college student leader mental health. Using a phenomenological approach, the study explored the experiences of nine past student leaders at a small, private, liberal arts college in the Midwest. Results indicate that vicarious trauma, inherently, has a negative impact …

The Effects Of Motivation, Loneliness, And Academic Productivity On College Students During The Pandemic, Alyssa Bates
Master of Arts in Higher Education (MAHE) Theses
The 2020 pandemic and the stay-at-home-orders shifted the college experience for students and required students to complete their work off-campus. This research uses a convergent mixed methods design to examine how loneliness, motivation, and academic productivity interacted in the lives of students during the pandemic. This study explores the implications of the loneliness students experienced and the patterns or shifts in behavior that brought upon either success or struggle. The study shows that students were relatively lonely during this time, yet had varying measures of motivation, leading to a low positive correlation between loneliness and lack of motivation. Additionally, significant …
