An Inquiry Into Hope And Imagination In Jesuit Education: Ignatian Design Thinking As A Lens For Exploration, Stacy Neier Beran, Patrick M. Green Nov 2023

An Inquiry Into Hope And Imagination In Jesuit Education: Ignatian Design Thinking As A Lens For Exploration, Stacy Neier Beran, Patrick M. Green

Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal

Hope and imagination are foundational to a Jesuit education, and as central tenets, inform teaching and learning through Ignatian pedagogy. The authors explore hope and imagination in the Jesuit context through the lens of scholar-practitioner inquiry, drawing from the local context and practice of an Ignatian design thinking course as a source of knowledge. This inquiry approach is rooted in practice-based research, and situates scholarly exploration through lines of inquiry and problems of practice, specifically exploring how design thinking fosters curiosity and creates space for teaching imagination and hope. The authors draw on their teaching experiences, course design, and professional …

One Day I Will Destroy This Place, Shyam Patel Nov 2023

One Day I Will Destroy This Place, Shyam Patel

The Goose

My personal narrative reveals the complex and often ineffable journey that I experience from academia to home and from home to academia. I speak to the different modes of walking that such a journey necessitates: walking back home, into a sea of whiteness, and out of academia. As I make my way from Toronto to Montréal, from my residence in academia to where I call home, I carry with me the cruel optimism of education, weighing down the steps that I take, I attempt to grapple with spatial negotiations. It often feels like an arduous and never-ending passage. Still, my …

Impact Of Audio-Visually Enhanced Pedagogy On Student Performance And Satisfaction In The Blended Anatomy And Physiology Classroom, Pradeepa Poudyal

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones

Demand for Anatomy and Physiology (AP) courses is increasing with the popularity of health care professions in the United States. Institutions are adopting blended mode of delivery in AP classes for its practicality. This mode allows implementation of multimodal pedagogy in the curriculum. Hence, students get to choose the resource that matches their learning preferences; understanding student needs is instrumental in enhancing learning experiences in any course. This study aimed to assess the impact of audio-visual interactive media (AVIM) on performance and satisfaction in the virtual lectures of blended AP courses. This study was conducted in two blended AP courses …

The Structures And Functions Of Offices Of Academic Affairs: A Case Study, Ryan Thomas Landry Nov 2023

The Structures And Functions Of Offices Of Academic Affairs: A Case Study, Ryan Thomas Landry

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This study sought to describe how offices of academic affairs (administrative offices supporting provosts) at public, research-intensive universities in the United States are structured and what kind of work these offices do. There is a dearth of scholarly literature on the topic, indicative of an overall lack of knowledge about these organizations. From a practical standpoint, I intended for this study to contribute to the body of knowledge of higher education administration with hopes that it provides helpful insights to administrators as they consider organizational design. Using the theoretical framework of modern organization theory, I employed an embedded case study …

2023-November-07-Andrew Lawson- ‘Helping To Create Something Bigger’.Pdf, University Marketing And Communication, East Tennessee State University

ETSU News

With an impressive body of work already under his belt, Andrew Lawson is well on his way toward achieving his dream of a career in film animation.

Lawson is a graduate student from Knoxville pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in digital media at East Tennessee State University.

His interest in digital media springs from his childhood, when he was captivated by Disney cartoons and Tim Burton’s claymation films, especially “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Because his family moved often, he needed something to entertain himself, and so he turned to art.

“I started out getting into illustrating and drawing,” he …

Off The Rails: Cinematic Trains As Technological Controls Of The Natural World, Trinity Thompson Nov 2023

Off The Rails: Cinematic Trains As Technological Controls Of The Natural World, Trinity Thompson

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

Short train rail lines across the United States are seeing increased national funding to reduce toxic chemical spills caused by train derailments, the most notable of which happened in February 2023 in East Palestine, Ohio. A year prior, the film White Noise (2022) featured a similar toxic train derailment incident, taking place, too, in Eastern Ohio, and featuring actors from the town of East Palestine. In considering other films featuring trains, I identified a pattern of environmental conflict, leading me to question the relationship between trains and the natural environment as portrayed in popular cinema. To conduct my research, I …

2023-October-31-Sherrod Library Reaches Out In Many Ways To Support Students, Faculty.Pdf, University Marketing And Communication, East Tennessee State University

ETSU News

Academic libraries come with a built-in clientele. Students must write term papers, after all, and faculty use library resources in course preparation and research. But with the constantly changing technology and methodologies, it can be hard to keep up with the myriad ways to use the library.

Staff at the Sherrod Library of East Tennessee State University work hard to help students and faculty stay on top of it all. To do this, the library engages in two different kinds of outreach, according to David Atkins, dean of the Sherrod Library.

“First, we support students and faculty with their research …

Do Fishery Meeting Attendees Represent The Fishing Industries?, Dominique Seibert Oct 2023

Do Fishery Meeting Attendees Represent The Fishing Industries?, Dominique Seibert

LSU Master's Theses

Public meetings are a highly utilized tool for disseminating important or useful information. Many agencies rely on them to reach various stakeholders and community representation at these meetings is important. A substantial amount of research has been conducted on various aspects of public meetings including different techniques, factors impacting attendance, and representativeness, that is attendees’ opinions representing the opinions at-large. A noticeable gap in the research includes information on public fishery meetings, commercial fishing industries, and their members’ participation. With the U.S. commercial fishing industries supporting more than a million jobs and providing more than a 200-billion-dollar economic impact annually, …
