Cultivating Gratitude And Learning: Virtual Agriculture Education For Elementary School Students, Heather Smith, Joy Gritton
2021 Celebration of Student Scholarship - Oral Presentations
In a time when the majority of young children know more about a computer than agriculture, this project brings agriculture to them in a unique way. This presentation introduces a program that aims to connect elementary students with the vast agriculture industry in the digital age using appropriate technology. The project consists of teaching children in Eastern Kentucky and beyond about agriculture and land use through the virtual dissemination of relevant stories, facts, and activities. In this way children can learn how agriculture is vital to their everyday life. Featured topics include horticulture crops, agronomic crops, livestock, and the history …

Instead, dedicated to following God’s path for their lives, they have an internal drive to give their all, no matter if they are serving in the mission field or hiking the Appalachian Trail. Other articles discuss Southern student's outdoor adventures and the legacy of Dr. David Smith.
Setting The Stage: The Phantom Of The Opera And Gothic Space, Zitaanne Reno
Setting The Stage: The Phantom Of The Opera And Gothic Space, Zitaanne Reno
Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)
First published from 1909 to 1910, Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of Erik, the titular deformed composer, and his dark love for a beautiful soprano. Similar to Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, another French story involving a deformed man in love with a beautiful woman, the setting is a crucial aspect of the novel. Examining the Palais Garnier, a labyrinthine building composed of staircases, passageways, trapdoors, and a subterranean lake, in conjunction with Notre Dame, a cathedral utilizing traditionally gothic architecture, reveals how the opera house functions as a gothic space. Rather …

The Rise Of The Goddess Is Always With A Little Bit Of Help From My Sisters: An Analysis Of The Need For A Documentary On Multicultural Greek Sororities, Natalie Lopez Herrera
Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)
This research project answers two main questions: How do women of color become empowered in a white predominantly institution? What is the best way to acquire this information beyond the academy? As a woman of color and international student, answering these questions were important to me when I began my studies here at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. The Rise of the Goddess focuses on the experience of young women of color in multicultural organizations and argues for the documentary as a means for accessing this information. The Rise of the Goddess demonstrates that multicultural sororities empower women of color …

Strategic Use Of Innovation In High Research Universities: Mission-Driven Or Mission Drift? A Comparative Review Of The Top 100 International Universities Recognized For Innovation, Kate Montgomery
Education Policy and Leadership Theses and Dissertations
This research supports some of the mounting pressures higher education practitioners face in approaching innovation strategically while recognizing the mission-driven needs of the institution. Two research questions were examined. First, how do highly innovative universities communicate traditional missions and innovation in their mission statements? Second, to what extent do innovation strategies align as stated in their strategic plans with their mission statements? This research was grounded in institutional theory given the breadth of literature linking this theory to institutional rhetoric such as mission statements. In addition, the theory provided relevancy to assessing the debate over legitimizing tendencies, such as symbolism …

Introducing Catholics & Cultures: Ethnography, Encyclopedia, Cyborg, Mathew N. Schmalz
Introducing Catholics & Cultures: Ethnography, Encyclopedia, Cyborg, Mathew N. Schmalz
Journal of Global Catholicism
In introducing the Catholics & Cultures site and the articles in this special issue, this essay initially locates the overall Catholic & Cultures project within the traditions of ethnography and encyclopedia. Drawing extensively on the work of J. Z. Smith, this essay reflects upon the theoretical implications of emphasizing the diversity of Catholicism in and through a web-based platform that facilitates comparative study and pedagogy. This essay then more specifically considers the web-based aspects of Catholics & Cultures by identifying a nascent cyborgian aesthetic in the site and considering how the site might eventually engage post-modern themes and concerns.

A Vernacular For Lincoln, Nebraska, Austin Riggins
A Vernacular For Lincoln, Nebraska, Austin Riggins
Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)
The contemporary vernacular architecture in the United States is a product of industrialization and globalization. One homogenous, mass produced vernacular has dominated nationwide and overshadowed the unique, contextual, and regional designs of the past. While the contemporary, industrialized vernacular has led to increases in the quality of life for many in the developed world, it has also left in its wake a homogenous and placeless environment devoid of environmental sensitivity or cultural references. There is a need for a set of new vernaculars that embrace modern building technologies while simultaneously responding more directly to local climatic needs and facilitating a …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This paper was intended to evaluate electronic collections, digital collections, digital resources, e-books, e-resources using bibliometric exploration from 2001 to 2020. The main purpose is to associate the available scholarship on the electronic and digital collections in the Web of Science indexed documents. There was a lack of computable quantities on the electronic collections. We used the bibliometric analysis and 2002 published documents were found. The results indicated that the top topic of published documents as electronic books or e-books and library, article as a type, English as the top language, top publications in 2016, and Huang YM was the …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Higher academic institutions are now focusing on capturing the behaviors of the postgraduate students towards digital libraries. It depends on the conditions of assessing the psychological needs of both parties in which service-provider provides services to recipient and recipient reciprocate service-provider in turn to their services. Drawing from service-encounter needs theory (SENT), this study measures the service quality of the digital library of the Pakistan higher education commission (HEC) and student behaviors using the digital library. Interestingly, this study tests the service quality of the HEC digital library in the sight of postgraduate students of the public and private Universities …
